You can skip bullnose, but then you need an edging at the corners, preferably in a matching tone. This is crazy.

It is a bad job, but also a bad choice of tile size for the space.

What on earth possessed you to have white grout with black tiles???

Yes, the installation isn't perfect, and even the design could have been better (the little slivers in the back of the niche, etc.). But it's all really sabotaged by that grout color.

When tile and grout contrast, the tile needs to be installed by a real expert.

Regardless of the grout color or the choice of tile, it’s a lousy installation....varying grout spacing from huge to tiny, slipping tiles, and on the floor some tiles are almost touching, while others are widely spaced. Really, it’s terrible.

The tile job is poor and the bad tile job is accentuated by the bright white grout. Either redo all of it or stain the grout a medium gray.

Typical $1.98 “tile guy” work. Actually, it’s better than that. Maybe $2.98 tile work.

What did you pay for the job? And what waterproofing did he use?

It's unfortunate and the white grout doesn't help it only accentuates. Did you specify to him the width of the grout LINES. He obviously didn't adhere to it if so because there are many different sizes. I'm sorry that happened.

Unfortunately it looks like a sub par tile job, grout joints vary in thickness, uneven tile and looks to be unlevel tile. I would recommend at the very least regrouting with a dark charcoal color grout to help hide those joints.

Little advice on the next shower niche try a picture frame border around the niche so the edges can be a 45 degree, its a clean look with small grout joints and all my clients love it, Good luck

the top of the niche is bad. He didn't want to wait for the bullnose tile? sounds like he made the mistake and should rectify it until you are happy.

your contractor did the tile work himself?? contractors aren't tile setters. there's your answer. what did he charge you to waterproof and tile the shower?

Do not pay in full until your are satisfied w/the corrections.

Redguard on walls, membrane on pan with corner guards. Final bill was 50% over original estimate - original estimate was 4200$. Small alcove shower 10sqft floor

also caught him pouring thinset and grout down my drains. Had to take apart a sink drain to get it functioning again, 3/4 clogged with grout.

have you already paid him for the tile work? in full?

when you point out these errors in your tile, what does he say?

so you final bill for this small shower was 6300?? you're kidding, right? Did he advise you of the overage or just went ahead and gave you the 'new bill'? you have the old estimate w/your signature on it?? I 'm assuming?? you signed nothing w/the new price?

Did you hire the gardener? I hope you haven't paid.

I fixed the the sink. This guy spent four weeks in my house. I am done with him. He will not be able to make it better and I don't plan on letting him come back.

i just want a functional shower. Sorry I ever let him in my house, came recommended.

whether or not you don't him to touch it, before you take legal action (if you want to do that) you have to give him one chance to rectify the problems.

BTW,,,my entire bathroom tile job was less than his inflated final price. There were two guys that spent a total of 8 days working here. (my tile guy actually underbid this job and told me afterward) He can't just charge more that what was agreed upon. and neither can yours. What did you end up doing about payment.

Aside from the cosmetics, what doesn't function after you cleared the sink drain? I agree, this guy is clueless and top dollar. How did he take advantage of you like this?

Signature on 4200 and was told 6 days to finish job. Half paid up front. He started pressuring for more/earlier payment at beginning of week 3. He has rcvd 4800 to date. I have started using shower.

I sent a rebuttal letter outlining his mistakes in his bill. Double charge on tile, and other areas. The only overage agreed to was 400 for tile. A number for mold restoration was mentioned but never anything in writing nor signed. The four weeks were typically 3 hr days. 3 days that were 6-7 hrs.

Befriend the person who referred him also.

you made a poor decision in hiring. One likely based on price. A 10' shower pan usually equates to aprox 100' of tiled shower surface. On average my shower builds With No glass doors ,No tile itself , No demo/plumbing. land around 60-80$ per finished sq ft for custon showers.

I usually tell folks to look to CTEF for CTI installers as a smart place to look for a real tile pro but even that basic hands on Pay to play accredidation doesnt pan out all the time. Just saw another thread yesterday of A CTI installer doing mediocre work and skipping the flood test.
