Yes, I thought it was odd to have two eating areas so close in proximity close however only a few steps away is my living room area. Wont that we odd too? Actually we use the nook for our meals most of the time.

Agree with above... you could use this spot for a lot more other than another eating area so very close. If it's just off the kitchen and you need more storage (?) you could place a nice sized armoire there that ties in to your room or have a built in put in with a counter and storage and if you like wine a nice wine bar built in would be a nice option.

I definitely like both ideas! That said, it will have to be plan B. I recently purchased the table and chairs. Might be a hard sell to my husband. .

This is our winter snowbird home so trying to be more of a minimalist this time around and thoughtful for my son if there were the need to sell the home as we age.

Any other ideas? I have golden curtains on the dining/living walls. Should I bring some of the gold/blue/grey to that side?

You need to hunt for a black hutch or corner unit wicker can always go somewhere else Get some blue or gray pattern in curtains and take runner off table

I like that the two eating areas have different personalities. I wouldn't try to make them match more -- they play well together right now, and anything closer would really make it look like you wanted twofull dining areas! :)

Shelving to add balance and sconces to the right wall. Artwork to hallway and remove round piece over the bistro table. Create a separate bistro coffee/bar area.

what about a corner bench seating area and maybe a cabinet? Could add enough seperation from the dining area

Bench seating is exactly what they had in the model home. It looked great however, we felt that as we age it would be challenging to slide in and out. Two chairs and bench would be crowded for the small area.

I would move the table further into the corner and remove/replace/move the light. Ex.

Just tried moving the table as suggested. Not enough room. The space is smaller than it looks in picture.

We would also suggest adding one more chair to the grouping. Other than that, it doesn't seem odd or unbalanced.

Something to try: 1. Move table/chairs closer to kitchen space, on the wall with the round art piece (to its left if it will fit). Angle the chairs so that one is angled toward the dining room and the other is opposite it. 2. Remove that chandelier. Place a decorative lamp on your small table with the circular art piece and perhaps another little do-dad to round out that look. The lamp will need to be slim and medium-height and be used for lighting when you need it (or for mood when you don't!). 3. Place a chest under the art/candles where you currently have the table, and accessorize with perhaps a family picture,decorative box, etc. This arrangement will remove that table from being in the same plane as the dining room area, and create interest and mood. Try some pieces that you already own (ie lamp/chest/accessories). Good luck!

The blue bowl currently on that table would look lovely on a little chest.

I don't mind the second dining area, but the position of the small table and chairs is not pleasing to the eye. The table needs to be closer to the corner with the backs of the chairs angled on the two walls. Both seats would be looking more outward and seem intentional.

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried but the chair sticks out interfering door access to bedrooms and half bath. The area is is smaller than it looks in the picture.

While I like the suggestions in the thread, I recognize "living in the house " is important. My husband loves the little nook as It is the only spot to spread out a paper, eat breakfast, and catch the TV morning news.

I'm wondering if anyone is aware of chair hardware that would enable the chairs to be used on a rug. Then, I could find a very thin rug (suggestions??), add color to the chair cushions, and change out the wall art it might work for a few winters. Least costly option.

What about a cabinet or short bookshelf as a room divider to visually enclose the casual eating and kitchen from the more formal? Bookshelfs are only 12” deep if you can find one with a finished back or diy....or the ikea cube look. The close proximity dual eating is nice if you have overflow at holidays.

Alright, so it is what it is. Try angling the chairs toward the kitchen, at least. I would keep my eyes open for more impactful wall decor then.

I found some samples from other furniture which I placed JUST for color.

That's much better already and I can see the doorway now. Look at the colors in the dining room painting and spread those blues and greens around as your accents!

Just brainstorming:

Paint those two walls. Maybe even with a broad stripe pattern. Or just a painted stripe.

Wallpaper those two walls.

Patterned, bright seat cover pillows on the chairs.

Shelving or a display cabinet. Or a large mirror.

A new light fixture. And/or a rectangular light fixture over the Dining Table.

Agree, move the sconces to the dining table.

Actually I was thinking of a large wall clock. Not sure of color-silver, brown or weathered wood? Rectangle or round? Rectangle harder to find. Yes to color on chairs. Can add color with placemats as well

With regard to painting; two issues with that. Not a clean break due to door leading back to bedrooms/bathroom. Also, the corners on my walls are rounded which makes it horrible to cut in the paint. Can't get a decent pic of rounded corners.

I have rounded corners, so I understand. As I said, I was just brainstorming.

What do you think about adding just a bit more weight to the dining area and let your little nook be? Okay, brainstorming again. Is there room to add two upholstered chairs to the ends of your dining table?

And what do you think of a different pendant over the dining table to set it apart?

Can you move the flowers over to the nook table when you're not using it, and take OFF the settings, so it's more of a display table when not in use?

Can you add a large plant in that nook, in the corner?

Yes I can change the light. I have a matching orbit light in foyer so I guess I could switch those around. Interestingly the lighting "design" lady told me to have the matchy-matchy lights except for the number of globes-hence their locations.

The table setting was just for the pic. Yes, flowers are good. And yes, I also considered a plant in corner but will need to find something that won't get in the swing of an arm while eating. Of course my husband is left handed and that chair is his "news" corner as I mentioned before. The chairs could no longer be angled due to a plant. Space issues again. The chairs don't properly fit under the table. A fact I must live with for now.

All this said, I moved a plant to the corner for pic visuals. It helps! The pic of my other dining table is a golden color which the checked cushion might be an option for reupholster options. (Funny what one can find around the house for sample color. ).

The last two pics also are poor quality as both are golden. First pic is arm chair covers from living room. The dot pattern is the curtain pattern on the the dining/ living wall. (See previous pics in thread). I kind of wanted to bring the golden color around to that area. Give some color balance. Even my kitchen counter has golden woven into the granite.

You are right! Does look better. I typically don't have flowers so it was heavy. I'll talk to my husband to see if he can keep up the flowers!!!! haha.
