we really want granite, not wood, quartz or Others.

What about a pure black or white granite?

There is something called supreme black. Maybe try that.

we are affraid black will be too dark and less interesting because of the black cabinets.
we sure want to pick a color that is in the pine green granite.
maybe its better to look for a white or cream granite with subtle veins?

It would be best to go with as little pattern as possible, so no veins of anything.

It’s great that you are updating your kitchen with a trendy yet timeless black island. I agree with others comments not to add another granite pattern. I understand you are not interested in solid black granite, white, quartz etc. I’m recommending you add a texture to the room with leather finish or honed black granite or maybe cream solid surface for your new black island. Your existing cabinets and granite are nice and sleek with a bold pattern. A more matte and less sleek island countertop could be a nice updated compliment to your existing kitchen. I can’t remember your existing cabinet hardware but this is another area to update and coordinate or compliment your new island. Please post pictures of your selections!

I agree w Solhouse- honed black granite would look great

I would not attempt to match your other granite. Anything from a different slab will clash and you will hate it. It makes more sense (to me) to use Quartz on the island, selecting a quartz solid which closely or exactly matches one of the main colors in your granite. You could also use a solid Corian, but Quartz seems to have a bit more depth of color.

the reason why i dont like plain color is because it looks ordinary to me. i wanted to have a Wow effect in my kitchen island. but i understand and i agree that it is easier to match a plain granite with what i have.

would it look nice if i choose an almost plain white with very tiny veins? just to satisfy me. i dont want to pay 2000$ for a plain granite that wont sstisfy me....

Check out your local granite yard to see if they have remnants. Then stroll through and see if there's anything you like. But make sure you go plain. There is too much action in the existing granite to be able to make a figured granite work.

I know you don't like quartz but look at MSI's Calcutta Vincenza or Caesarstone's Misty Carrera or Frosty Carrina. That's the kind of thing you want. And don't eliminate products because "I just don't want quartz!" That's not a productive strategy.

I have absolute black and it is beautiful, however I would probably get it honed as mine shows every fingerprint because it is so shiny

i looked at quartz too but i prefer granite because it is what i already have and because it is more unique.
that said, ehat do you think of montblanc quartz or noble grey? is it too busy?

The problem is there is not really a "plain" white or cream granite. That's why quartz is the go to option for people who want solid light. Lighter granites tend to be busier. Look at Mayfair White or Kashmir White. They are about as plain as they come and have a greenish undertone that will work with the pine green.

Also if you are considering quartzite Mother of Pearl or Taj Mahal would look phenomenal.

There's a nice quartz from Silestone called Serena, and it's a middle gray with white veins on it like a soapstone. Looks beautiful! You'd need to get a sample so you could compare it to the stones in your current granite, but it might fit the bill...

finaly i think we will go black we really love black gold quartz. it is our first choice. but we only saw it on internet we will go at the granite store tomorrow.

i didnt say it but all the knobs will be gold and black (no more stainless). the pendants are gold too. so i want to have gold accent in the countertop too. i love transitional and midcentury style.

I would suggest you go with a white granite. It will bring out the white in the other top.

You can get a white with gold specks in it...I suggest you bring home a small sample,if available, first...going all dark may be too much with dark cabinets and existing countertops dark as well..just food for thought!!!! Good luck!!

Are the white flecks in your present granite obvious enough to choose white...how will white look with your floors?

I'd have to replace all the granite. From the pictures you posted, there doesn't seem to be that much existing and it looks like one slab would do it. Pick something you really love that works for the counters and the island.

why do you think that white is better than black?

my floor is light beige color almost white. i am affraid the white counter would pop up the floor, wich i dont really like...

No to the sample u found. It beautiful but too busy with the other granite and it will compete and look wonky. Either replace all granite to be the same, or go light with no movement so you don't have competing patterns. No veining, no anything.

Truthfully, I would replace all the granite for a cohesive look, but that's just me. Then you are open to whatever kind you want.

I would go with a honed soapstone. It used to used in labs because it wouldn't stain. Scratches can be sanded out, and it can sometimes have a green cast to the gray.

You can look into black galaxy - it has flecks of color in it or check out Silestone - they just released a new color that looks just like soapstone and one that looks like concrete. Cesarstone also has great colors that look like concrete. There are hundreds of colors out there - you should definitely get to the yard and have a look around..

we went to the granite store and we made 3 choices.
i really dont know what to choose...im close to pull my hair out lol!

so the final choices are :
Ceasarstone caldera
star Galaxy granite
brown antique granite

i had a big crush for those tree.
the 2 granite wont compete because they are almost plain.
the quartz is more busy but there is a lot of gold flake in it that i like.

how will i choose between those 3 ???
what do you think ?

i wont replace all the granite because i dont have the $$$ to do it...if i was able to, i would have done it.

and i didnt like the white quartz or granite at the store. i was really more attracted by the dark granite...so i think black it should be.

Brown antique is one of my absolute favorites, it looks even more beautiful installed.
