They are all good choices as long as you don't use the pillows that come with the couch. What color are your walls and flooring in the room? What style? The third is a more casual look.

Why not get a pattern that adds a little color?

My vote is the first one of the three!

I just moved so the living room is pretty much empty. Though, there is a wall piano in the room that is screaming to be redone. The walls are revere pewter but, I don’t think it is a good color for the room. I was hoping to pick the furniture and then find a good paint color. The floor is carpet and it runs into the tile by the entry and I actually don’t even know what color I would call either of them!! The carpet is a dark gray, almost brown color and the tile has brown, black, and gray swirled in it. Definitely will be getting new pillows for the sofa. - I’m not picking a colorful rug because I like neutral, soft, calming colors. :)

The only thing that needs to stay is the piano (and the baby!) I’m thinking of getting one of these rugs for the this room and picking another one of them for the dining room that is connected to this room.

I ended up picking the top rug for my connected dining room and the 2nd rug to go in the living room with the pictured sofa. (The rugs look much lighter in person. They look very dark in the pictures.)

I would choose a less formal look with no sheen, more of a natural linen fabric.

I would get your furniture in, then choose the paint color first. But most neutral patterns/colors will work.

I can't see the window but it looks like a "bay" style? You might not need drapery at that window especially if the sofa is going in front of it? Need more info. Possible Woven Roman Shades would be a better choice for the windows. Make sure you get a "rug-on-rug" rug pad for that rug you will be putting on top of the carpet. Otherwise, you will have constant movement and with that little sweetie, a tripping hazard! I do like that first rug. I think I might have done both spaces with that same rug or gone to a lighter/less patterned one in the living room. Are you keeping the coffee and end table?

It is a bay window. I just thought of curtains because I like window but it seems very plain. I thought curtains would frame it. But I have no idea what I’m doing so I definitely appreciate any suggestions you have.

I don’t plan on keeping the coffee table. I think the room is too small for all of it...?

It’s a north facing room with a covered deck outside the window, so the room is very dark. I think the lack of natural light in the room, all the dark wood, and my poor choice in paint color is really complicating it for me. I’d like to paint the wood by the window and baseboards and refinish the piano. But that is a big step and I don’t want to make it worse.

The pictures really make the rugs look darker than they are. I went back to the store twice to look at the colors of the rugs compared to the sofa because the pictures kept throwing me off. But in person, the color of the rug and sofa are very similar. It does make it hard to try to get advise on it, though.

(And I chose the sofa for functional purposes. It’s actually a sectional. I just moved from Florida to Colorado and will be having quite a few house guests as my family comes out to visit. 10 people will be here this Thanksgiving!! So if NEED be, I can put the chairs up against the sofa for one of the younger ones to sleep on.)

You have to keep window treatments light and airy for both natural lighting and to keep max space for the oversized sofa. Here are some examples of Roman shades and one with stationery side panels to soften look.

The sofa is gray and the rugs are beige with black.

Look at gray rugs with dark gray accents.

Cortney, the lighter background rug I understand is going under the couch. The other in the dining area....

For the two windows as mentioned you should do a Relaxed Roman or Traditional Roman. You can look google them and see what they look like so you know.

As for the above, lower the rod to 6" above the opening and have the curtains just kiss the floor yours are way too high. Make sure the panels aren't skimpy or double the panels on each side if you don't do an on line order of say 100" panels on ea. side.

Use a neutral color from the area rug.

The couch looks so neutral to me, is it light gray or other?

The lightest color from the area rug that is for curtains as is.

What color is the couch? Ugh, scratching me head.

Either would work, providing that the rug is at least as long as the sofa and wide enough for the front legs to be 6-8” on it.

Pictures are so deceiving- the sofa is not gray; it is beige. Neither of the rugs have black in them. What looks like black in the photo is actually navy blue. The colors of the rugs are navy blue, a lighter color blue, gray, and two different shades of beige. The color of the sofa is the same color as the darker beige in the rug.

What are your thoughts on painting the trim and baseboards white?

The rug in dining room is not big enough. I am not sure a rug is needed in that space. You need at least 2’ chair push back where chairs stay on the rug and legs don’t catch on edge of rug. Doesn’t look like there is sufficient space for a rug in the dining area. So might want to return that one or use in living room and return the living room one. Just giving you options.

I posted a picture of each of the rugs in the comments which may show a more accurate picture of their color than the original pictures I posted. Both of the new rugs are 8x10.

Thank you Porter for letting me know that the curtains are too high in the dining room. That was the level that the previous owners had it at so I just left it there. I thought it looked funny but I thought it was just because my curtains were too short. I will definitely readjust it.

I like the height on curtains. The ceiling is not high, so keep curtains the same level, it would bring visual height. Just make them from ceiling to floor.

DO Hang High

The higher the rod, the taller the window will appear, so fix your curtain rod closer to the ceiling than the top of your window. The rule of thumb is that they should sit 4-6 inches above the window frame.

DON'T Go Too Short

Unless you are using cafe-style curtains, the fabric should fall to the floor. These are the highwater pants of curtains and not a good look. A little puddling can be nice if you want a romantic feel but if you don't want to worry about them dragging and getting dirty, then stop the fabric just before they hit the floor — a little under an inch is good.

DO Choose Appropriate Fabric

Choose fabric that suits both the mood of the room, and its function. Lighter blends feel casual and filter light, while denser fabrics feel more formal and provide more privacy. Try something like heavy velvet for drafty windows, or linen for a breezier feel.

Celerygirl is correct if you want them that high it's not a, "don't". I like them to puddle a little as she shows, some don't. I feel it looks a bit high. The above is from Apartment Therapy not my quotes.

Revere Pewter on the walls; color of your sofa; I think you should be looking at tones of browns for the rug with an additional accent color to help with window treatment color. I like a blue. Solid rug for under dining table.

I have to say, I actually really like how the rugs that I got turned out!! Though, it turns out that I may be a worse photographer than I am even at decorating because I can’t seem to get a good picture. They look so dark in the pictures but they are so light in person. I think I may need to get a lot of lamps to bring more light in here.

Here is the living room. Those are NOT new curtains; they are just 2 different curtains that I had tucked away. I put them up to see how the colors would work.

I guess I will leave the rod where it is at until I find new curtains, and I will get the longest ones I can. Then adjust the rod to their height so the curtains touch the floor.
In regards to color, are the temporary curtains that I put up the color that I should be shopping for? Should I take down that dark mirror?

Here is the living room. The 2 chairs came last night but the sofa will be here tonight. The rug actually looks almost white in person. I don’t know why it looks so dark in pictures. I’m wondering if I should choose a white wall color and maybe redo the piano with a white chalk paint?

May I ask, what color of pillows and side tables should I be looking for? Should I find art for above the piano or maybe a collage of family photos?
(Don’t mind that long haired hooligan at the piano - that is just my teenaged son. He lives at that piano and he is the reason that I can’t get rid of it. At least until I can buy him a better one!) :)

The rugs look fantastic! I would leave the piano as is. It pulls in the natural wood on the pony wall. I would turn the LR rug, the border design is hidden the direction you have it.

For pillows just look for a neutral print(or solid) in gray, navy and blues. Just pull the colors from your rugs.

I’m still moving everything all around - I can’t decide if I want to keep the two chairs separate from the sofa or put it all together as a sectional and then get another chair to go across from. Now I’m on the search for window treatments and the right throw pillows. But, here it is so far...!!

My table is covered in my kids homework at the moment (but at least they are doing homework!!) but, I put these curtains up for now. I think the length is good.
