It looks like your home and style is traditional or French country with the diamond pane windows and pot rack of copper items ( Is the copper collection the previous owner's or yours?). Distressed and glazed cabinets are in keeping with the style. I do not think you can patch all the nicks successfully before repainting. You could have the cabinets refaced with fully overlay ed doors and drawers which would eliminate the exposed hinges and space around all the doors and drawers which would give it an updated look. The upper doors could also have seeded frosted glass instead of clear glass which minimizes what you see in the cabinets. Distressed and glazed cabinets is not necessarily a dated look but an element of an "Old World Style". If glazed ivory cabinets look dirty to you then I would consider painting the existing or newly faced cabinets a deeper tone that is still complimentary to the granite counters and limestone back splashes. Consider Benjamine Moore Rocky Beach # CPS-190 with a light umber glaze or no glaze. Go deeper on the walls with Benjamin Moore "Porcini" # CSP-195 for a more updated look. I would also consider replacing the black appliances with stainless steel or fully integrated panels on the dishwashers. You also could replace the clear glass in the upper cabinets with seeded or frosted glass. I would also consider having the granite counters honed which gives them a softer more mat finish.

I don't think your kitchen looks overly dated by the way It looks like it has a great "feel" and "flow".

Before you paint these cabinets, check out the price (expensive) on glazed cabinets.... they really don't look dirty!

The kitchen is charming and you must have been attracted to the homes interior architecture to have purchased it. With so many glass fronted upper cabinets you really need attractive well edited collections of glasses, plates and platters or it just looks messy. you could consider replacing the clear glass with seeded glass and edit what's shown behind glass. I have also shirred fabric behind the glass which looks great in a French country or Swedish Gustavian styled kitchen. The fabric could be a small stipe or check, mini print or semi sheer plane linen. The fabric should be at least two times fullness and shirred tightly on sash rods installed top and bottom on their side backs of the doors. You might have to reduce the depth of the shelves to accommodate the fabric and rods. It would be best to hire a professional workroom to measure make and install them. Another option is to install a diamond patterned iron mesh instead of glass with or without fabric behind them.

I especially like your suggestion of the seeded glass. I think that will look fantastic. And the paint color appeals to me too. I love this home but feel like the French Country and "old world style" has been done to death and was looking to update the look just a bit.

It's a gorgeous kitchen. Maybe you can update the other rooms if you feel it's overdone. It would be cheaper and less work too. Sometimes we just want to personalize a home so it feels like our own. Painting helps.

Two years later and here's the updated kitchen. The window treatments haven't been installed yet but I've ordered a roman shade. I used Tres McKinney's advice and installed hidden hinges but painted the existed cabinet doors and they look great. I also installed quartz countertops and carerra marble subway tile backsplash. Decided to take out the pot rack but will be adding canisters, rungs and a few plants to warm it up. Also haven't updated the appliances but will be adding stainless down the road. Unfortunately the LED recessed lights give off a pink color and plan to switch out the bulbs to halogen. Just not ready to go LED yet! Would love any other suggestions for tweaking!
