Help with entryway!

last modified: 8 years ago

We recently moved into a new home and I have no idea what to do with the entryway. Most of our colors are blue/orange (we also have grey thrown in and a couple mid century modern pieces). The first pic shows the general space. The second shows the problem area. There is a coat closet on one side of the entry way. I'm thinking some combo of console table (we are moving the black table currently there) and bench/chair? I also have no idea how to use the window nook (we just have a dog bed there now). We have little kids, so nothing too fancy, please! Thanks, houzz-ers!

Fantastic room! Could we please see the dog bed area to the left of the front door? Whatever you do will need to be balanced on both sides.

    a) console, yes..but something more dainty/slim. maybe demilune one?

    or-a bench..also on a smaller side

or said console plus an odd chair(I don't want to repeat myself but dainty/slim))

    b) several options:

    -a plant?

-an interesting small chair with say, an art leaned on it? (I noticed you love art. I love yours even though I can't clearly see it. Portraits!!)

-and yet another option-something I might do myself-nothing. At least for now. Then you'll see whether this corner wants something or not. You might find you like it just as it is. Empty. All these spots, they have mind of their own sometimes. I had plans for one of my walls..and then that wall-figuratively of course-looked at me and told me it wants nothing. So i complied.

Or you might be striken with some idea for it, later when you done with your next to the door arrangement-and it will feel just right.

    Beautiful home..congratulations!

Great space! As aprilneverends says, living with it for a while will give you a better idea of what wants to be there. Having said that, however... I'd keep the black console table, add a basket to catch mail/keys and add a largish round mirror, relocating your current items on the table and the artwork above it. Then... on the wall to the left of the door, think a b-i-g piece of vertical art - maybe a great B/W photo. Good luck!

Beautiful home! I would use a smaller console on the one side and maybe a taller plant on the other.

Wow! That's a gorgeous space. I feel like you don't need to add much.. small consoles and a plant or two would work but most important I think it just needs some light. Looking at the door my first impression is its probably not something you'd want to change out so another option would be to add mirrors on either side of the door to draw in light from the windows on the opposite side of the house. Its a beautiful space on its own.

What about long mirrors on either side.

Then possibly a small table under red arrow.
An accent chair next to green arrow and window.
