Need help with entertainment area

I think we want to do away with the entertainment center all together, and have the wiring with our cable boxes hidden in the closet. What should we put under the tv?

Yikes — the fireplace makes it difficult for centering something beneath the tv. In your case, I would probably opt for a floating shelf. You can mount it centered, but can’t have anything centered in terms of a table.

Exactly! I considered buying a piece of furniture the same width as the tv and maybe that would help the symmetry, but I'm just not sure that would look great either.

I would have opted for hanging the TV centered on the entertainment center even if it meant reaching behind it to use the light switch. It appears the TV is tilted so there would be hand room.

I thought about doing that as well. There are two speakers built into the wall above the tv. I felt like it would look off if we didn't center the tv between them.

I wouldn’t do a table the same size as the tv. You want the table/floating shelf beneath to be larger than the tv for it to look balanced. In general, having the tv be 3/4 the length of the table/floating shelf is a good rule of thumb.

What does the rest of your room look like? Is that the best place for the TV? Yes, I think it should be centered between the speakers to look good. If you are going to put your TV stuff in the closet....could you put a plant on the hearth next to the TV or on the side under the light switch and have nothing under the TV? If you want something under the TV.... (it looks too bare...etc.) how about a couple of colorful storage ottomans (small square ones on rollers...I have one) that could be used for pull up seating if needed? I think the TV could be lowered a little but that is up to how comfortable you are watching it.
