Lynn, I'm in New England as well! (suburb North of Boston - originally from Western Mass.) Which is exactly why I'm looking for a cosmetic refresh only - nothing substantial. Everything here is so darn expensive! Yes, new pillows are a great idea.

I love it as is, but if you want to change up the fabrics then do so. Simple change and might give you the change you need.

I don't think you have room for a narrow island. It would just get in your way is my thought. Doesn't look like the space is wide enough either for one. You could mock one up out of cardboard and see if you still like it.

I was thinking more of a furniture piece, not an actual island. Something like this. I really don't need it for functionality, I just love the aesthetics of it. But you're right, it may actually hinder functionality and wind up just looking cluttered.

I think it looks great! What's your favourite colour? Maybe you could do some fun pillows or valances in lime green or orange? Purple? And keep the other ones for when you get tired of bright colours.

Or whatever color that’s fun and bright as something completely fresh and different then you have. Save those for later when you want a change again because you might miss them. Maybe add a couple colorful pitchers to your white collection. I think the island might be too in the way as well.

Look at the IKEA island/kitchen cart. I pained the bottom of mine black to make it disappear and oiled the butcher block top. It's only 17" wide but SO useful.

Hi Gle, sure. It's called White Ice. We love it! My kids call it "cookies and cream".

You could have chimed in on my thread wondering how remodels have stood the test of time. I think yours has done well! Very pretty. Backsplash looks great. To me, a new valance--Roman Shade--might be nice. Hard to suggest b/c I can't really tell what the wall color is and what your other rooms look like. I think your kitchen can work with a lot of different looks.

Thanks for the feedback. The wall color is serenity by BM. It carries through to the attached dining/family room. It's a versatile blue/grey.

I think I will try fussing around with different window dressings. That seems to be the general consensus.

colorful pottery on shelves flanking window....add runner on sink side of kitchen to bring in similar color. I might just remove the burlap window treatments and think about [top down bottom up]cellular shades ...bring home a sample book....if you go that route then change to a valance up at the top. leave the cushions and toss pillows for now...custom covering is not that cheap...those items are not at eye level. The action to consider is up around shelves and atop windows.
