Pretty redo! I agree on finding some art that you like to hang there. Nothing too expensive that could get ruined by dampness from the shower. Just make sure it's large enough so it's not dwarfed by your tall cabinet.

You could also look for a shelving unit if you need space for folded towels or other items and don't mind it like you do the the hanging towels (I agree).

I have a print that is laminated onto wood for the bathroom - that way it won't get destroyed from the dampness. I like them for kitchens too. Everywhere else I'm into original art but wouldn't want to risk damage in those areas.

No I don't think I will think about that Leslieap!! ick. Open shelving works. Towel bar works. Storage is an issue in my world so functional is the go to over purely decor.

no more sears catalog to use for TP tho. although the RH catalog that was left on my porch this week would keep hubby and i going for 6 months.

Your bathroom turned out great. No texture or fabric over the toilet. That area needs something that is easy to clean and dust. A nice print would work. Just make sure it's large enough for the space.

I also have a scenic art picture over my stool.....has browns/beiges that match my rug and sheer curtains.

Thanks to all of you for the great ideas. I have to think about the dampness in the bathroom and the laminated art work seems like the way to go. The idea with the shelves is also something to consider!

A print or shelving over a CLOSED LID TOILET!!!!!

Art of some sort (and a Close the Lid sign as Sustainable says!). Here are 2 of my over-the-toilet arrangements:

I've had unsealed art in my bathroom forever. No damage at all. Not valuable or unique art though, just a couple framed fruit crate labels. It's away from the shower and a couple feet above the sink though. Gets good and steamy in there too. I fully expected to see damage when I put them in there but they are fine.

My over the toilet cabinet looks to be a cut back kitchen cabinet that matches the vanity. It's the depth of a toilet paper roll and holds quite a lot of stuff. Other than conking a head if the door is open it's not a hazard. Now dropping things in the toilet is a different matter. Do not put things in there you need often! I use bins for small stuff that I can carry to the vanity.

If you don't need the storage definitely go with a picture on the wall. Open space is nice. No shelf with decorative items! My cabinet came with the house, no reason to take it off. The storage it provides is nice but not essential.

Just keep the toilet lid closed and there should be no fecal bacteria in the bathroom, as was suggested in another post. Seriously.

I agree that the lid should always be closed when the toilet is flushed. It’s more sanitary and also solves the old argument of seat left up. That said, you can probably get people in your household on board with this, but it’s not possible to control the behavior of guests. So if anything goes over the toilet, I would choose art that is rarely touched and nothing like guest towels, tissue boxes, etc. that might be used to wipe hands and faces.

I have open shelves where I keep pretty soaps, seasonal decor and extra hand towels. But now, all I can think about is that everything is covered in a layer of fecal bacteria!!!!

Honestly, if we sat around thinking about all the germy things surrounding us every day we would go crazy. I choose to concentrate on a few things that bother me. I always wash my hands right after I walk in my front door, don't keep soft items around my toilet and I use hand sanitizer right after I touch gas pumps.

If those things don't bother, that's fine. I'm sure there are many germy things around my house that I intentionally ignore.

I think I'm probably a lot more conscious of washing hands and good sanitary practices both in the bathroom and in the kitchen than most people, but I don't get that concerned about flushing with the lid up. I would be more concerned about a surprise toilet overflow with the lid down.

I don't understand people who don't always keep the lid down on the toilet when not in use (or when flushing). For heaven's sake, it's a toilet - who wants to see the inside of a toilet when they enter a bathroom? Don't even get me started about keeping the SEAT down, lol!

Pretty painted tiles can be decorative and easily cleaned.
