Need help with care - wedding bulb

Hi, all. I have an elderly friend who was given this bulb to care for and bring back to a wedding on Jan 13, 2018. The giver provided no help with instructions. I garden, but haven't done bulbs in years, and never like this. My thought is keep water close to the top of the rocks for roots to get to. Is that right or am I way off base?

Looks like a paperwhite bulb, which are often grown on rocks or gravel. Water should come up to just the base of the bulb.

Just an FYI but once a green shoot appears from a paperwhite bulb, you have maybe 2-3 weeks before it blooms. A cooler location will delay this but I doubt you will be able to keep the bulb from blooming well before the Jan. 13 wedding date.........I doubt it will even last as long as Christmas before blooming!!

Sigh....but thanks!! The friend is a sweet 74 yr old woman I work with. The ID is fantastic, gardengal.....I'll buy another one for her. She'll never know it isn't the original, if I get it right!

I agree on the id and the info. Paperwhites shoot up once started. Mine are for Christmas and they're still in a paper bag in a cool spot.
