your home is beautiful. I am not sure what the new orleans look is, from what i know you would be close to it now, or darker, if it were much older. maybe you could show us a pic or 2? do you have any current furnishings?

What a fine distraction from what I should be doing.

I suggest making your first priority a camelback sofa. Make a big deal of your art, which doesn't have to be traditional, although an 'important' traditional style of frame is wonderful with this style. Gallery collections are fairly typical of new Orleans rooms, I think -- but art, not family photographs. I chose this Ikea rug because although it has a hint of Eastern pattern it is a quieter counterpart to the pattern on the sofa. If you choose a plain sofa, you could look to a richer rug, perhaps a Bokhara. Not everything has to be traditional; a touch of modernity will spice things up. But everything should be stylish and have character. Think metal: gold, silver, bronze, which can be in small touches. Chandelier, of course, but don't go overboard, I think. You don't want to fight too much with the open-plan kitchen. Put some traditional style kitchen accessories -- even just one big ornamental pottery item -- in the kitchen to reflect the colours you choose for the living room. Also not shown, soft, romantic curtains. You can do this.
