Well shoot, my entire post just disappeared. This is a cane type begonia, specifically a superba type which has many named hybrids (Sophie Cecile, Lana, and Irene Nuss to name 3 old ones) This looks very much like 'Irene Nuss'.

it blooms best with lots of sun, deep shade makes bigger darker leaves but at the expense of blooms

Oh how beautiful yours are! So much variety and so well-cared for. I was very confused on how to care for it, as I was told it was better exclusively in shade. It gets morning sun occasionally but I believe maybe not enough. Also, some leaves' tips seem dark and burned. Too little water perhaps? Because it really doesn't get much sun for it to be sunburned.

If you were going to neglect it then I would say filtered light or morning sun but if you check it every day or two for wilt, then several hours of full sun will be good for it - hardier leaves, more blooms, etc. The leaf color will change though but it is a toss-up - darker leaves or greener leaves and blooms?

I let a big pot freeze a couple of years ago so all the stems were killed to the ground. I had a change of heart to save one of the other plants in it - a golden Duranta. By February or March, I saw some new shoots coming up from the ground and they put on the healthiest shoots/leaves I ever had. Unfortunately the golden Duranta didn't come back.
