What do you mean by functional , do you work from home need filing cabinets, printer or jst a nice space to do paper work on a laptop , We need info to help.

Ergonomically --

Make sure your chair is adjustable in height, for best comfort and functionality.

Also, if you get a chair with arms, and it is adjusted to the height for you to work at the desk, will it fit far enough under so that you don't have to lean forward to type, write, etc.

With that carpet, you'll want casters on your chair to prevent snagging the carpet. It looks like a Berber weave, which snags easily (I speak from experience, having had that style in my previous home library).

For decor --

Do you need any shelf space over the desk? Floating wall shelves can be installed in multiple sizes/arrangement and can be used to mix practical (books) with decorative objects, art or photos.

After you decide what to put on the walls, consider a good desk lamp that is both functional and nice.

You'll likely want a nice trashcan for paper, and perhaps a small paper shredder. Mine is very small and discreet, as I shred the occasional paper and credit card.

Do you need a printer and table for it?

I will be working from home 3-4 days a week. No clients will be coming to the home office. Have a printer but will need some sort of printer table. The only other piece of furniture is a futon couch for the rare occasion when my sister or friend spends the night. Additional pictures attached (that was old desk but you can get use).

Would the desk work in front of the window? I love your desk choice!

Get an actual hidea bed not a futon unless you really hate your sister. And yes we need a floor plan.

This is the second bedroom of a townhome, we don’t plan to stay longer than another year so will not be replacing the futon while in this space, no real need.

The desk will not work in front of window, so I am looking for chair suggestions and additional wall art / decor and office suggestions for where the desk currently sits. In addition, something for the printer in that little nook.

I would check for a printer stand that matches the desk. You'll appreciate the pair when you move elsewhere. Meanwhile, you might match the paint and use the old desk for it. It seems to have nice shelves for the reams of paper and you could put printer supplies in a basket on one shelf. Shouldn't be hard to match the gray. Just take one of the drawers to your local SW or BM dealer and let them find the color for you. Consider adding a table lamp to it also. Table and lamp should reach 58-64" from the floor. If you need lots of storage, a storage bench under the window could help and be flexible when you move elsewhere (mudroom, foyer, breakfast nook.) As for art, find a piece of colorful art no longer than 75% of the sofa's width and hang it 5" above the sofa back. Pick up a "C" table and a floor lamp for the side nearest the desk. Best to put the fan light on a dimmer or just turn it off and use table and floor lamps when you're working.

If you are working for long hours it is better to have an office chair with good lumbar support.
