Decorative dilemma !!

Hi, we just recently renovated our apartment and I will appreciate any ideas. I need counter height stools ( 24-27” ) and small dining table. Also I really want to add something to the living room to make it cozy, I still need tv stand and coffee table and maybe New curtains and definitely have to do something with radiator. At the place where my dogs bed is I want to have dining table ( kind of small space ) I’ll be very Glad for any advice!! :)

Lamps, lamps, lamps are needed in the living room. Overhead lighting prevents a room from being cozy.

Thank you so much for all the advices !

Mojomom tomorrow I’ll try your way with curtains :) my husband will try to make kind of industrial coffee table didn’t decide exactly how it is going to look like. I was thinking to change pendants for larger ones - will keep searching ;)

P Bamos I was thinking about exactly the same counter stools - the wood one, couldn’t decide if I should order this one or plain metal one - thank you for your advice !

Grapefruit1_ar I know I really need floor lamps ! This one I have in my storage not sure if it’s not too dark

Here is a tv stand I want to buy, what do you guys think ?

And here are 2 dining tables I like

This one 36x36 extending to 50”

    This one 55” x40” extending 71

and dining chairs I already want

I think a small round table would fit better, maybe one with an extension or with drop leaf. How many people do you need to seat? Could you store extra chairs someplace, or consider folding ones?

I've changed the color of a light fixture by taking it apart, careful taping, and a can of rustoleum. Looks good after several years...

I like the tv stand, it is long enough. What is the depth?

Then you need something colorful on the walls!

I love round tables, the problem is there is only me and my husband and the dog but for the holidays we have family over, so there is 10 of us. We have big storage place in our building so I thought I can buy small rectangle table and always connected it with another folding table with folding chairs :) yes yes I need some art. I wanted to go with pastel colors art. That tv stand is 17.25” depth :)

Good idea with lights, we already have that Philips light ( you put them whenever you want - ours are on the floor ) that are changing colors. Great for evenings !

Many good ideas have been given already. The brown of the wood goes splendid with gray. Indeed cover the radiator. How do the curtains look, following mojomom's advice? The Noguchi Coffe Table that Manhattan posted caught my eye, since it breaks the rectangular straight jacket out of the room.

I too think a dining table in a not rectangular/square style could benefit this space a lot. So if your dining guests hardly ever come over, why don't you get two or three of those folding tables to set up when they come and temporarily store your normal dining table?

How about a brown leather chair in the corner to the right of the curtain? So you can converse more easily with a guest? Doesn't have to be too big.

Talking about big: to me your beautiful mirror has the wrong size. It dwarfs the space. Two-thirds of the current size seems maximum to me.

Could you place the tiniest-in-depth console on the left wall in the uppermost picture? So one could place a little bit on it and add some height and form there? Like this depth (but way too much stuff on it, so ignore that; but maybe a very small-in-depth lamp would go on it):

Since you have a truly big TV for the size of the room, I would not buy one big piece of art for the wall above the sectional, but rather several pieces placed in a fun way. Like this:

The black floor lamp, you already have, is fine. Would you consider some big plants? They add a lot of life to a room. Good fake ones, if need be.

Finally you need to personalize your entire home. As it is, it could be anybody's house. What do you like and love? Sports? Family? Music? The outdoors? Dogs? (Okay, that last one is obvious.) Show that in your house!

Have you collected something? Anything? Be it tea pots or vases or small trains or ? Show it! Where are your books? Where is your music? And I would be releaved if they brought a touch of color with them to liven things up.

Basically: where are You in the picture this house portraits? And where is your family? Where is the funny plant aunt Gerdy gave you? Where is the slightly distorted pot your youngest child made in high school (if you have children)? I even miss the dog's toys (poor sweet doggy).

The basics are fine, now transform this house into a home. I love a decluttered house as much as the next gal, but this went slightly over the top.

Hope we Houzzers were able to help you a lot already.

Congratulations on your new home! Your dog, too! So gorgeous!

Regarding the chairs you love, I love that style, too. When I was shopping for dining chairs, I considered the same style from Restoration Hardware and was ready to order, but the designer in my local store advised me not to get that style because they aren't sturdy. Sorry to report this, but since she was honest enough to kill a purchase, I think I should pass this advice along to you. She said the back X-brace loosens too much and the chair quickly wobbles.

Table -- I have a 36" square antique English pub table in my living room. It also extends with pullout leaves, so I have a good feel for the space required, when extended.

It is a great size and I'd advise you to push your proposed table against the wall when you don't have guests.

What are the dimensions of that space for your dining area? Consider the space needed for chairs, as well as the table.

Here's what my table looks like as a square, with two chairs (in front of the window). Note that I use a desk lamp (rectangular shape) so that the table is multi-functional--something to consider in a small space. I use the table for making jewelry, jigsaw puzzles, dining, laptop and paperwork. I may be one of the few who think a square that extends with leaves is better than round because it can be pushed against your wall.

I suggest your counter stools have straight legs directly beneath the seat, rather than splaying out at an angle. It will better suit the space needed for traffic to pass without a tripping hazard.

What is the length of your counter?

I have three stools at mine and I regret having purchased three because it crowds the space. Two are better, when in use. For me to sit at the counter, I have to not only pull out the stool to sit on, but the stool beside it.

My counter is 65" wide, between the posts. The three stools look spaced just fine when not in use. My 1939 house has uneven floors, so I went with these springy legs because 3 or 4 legs would have wobbled on the floors. These are RH stools from two years ago. Very comfy, though. I added the pads because the steel is COLD!

thank you so much for all the advice ! My countertop is 92” wide so I wanted to order 3 stools, I really love the one wood + metal that P Banos posted. I have 77” open space Btw sofa and kitchen tiles so I thought small table best of extendable would be perfect. Now I’m thinking small round table for 4 people with optional extension. Does any of you have any extendable dining tables that can recommend ?

Dyhgarden I love an idea with a lamp on your cute table ! talkibg about dining chairs - oh boy !! I love that kind of chairs so much - yayykksss ... guess I have to look around for different style.

Maria Privat we are looking for a leather chair. Before renovation we had one but my dog distroyed it when he was a puppy now he is 6 years old and doesn’t bite furniture anymore so we decided we will buy a new one. Tv we have now is way too big from this distance and today as it is Black Friday my husband is going to get 55” instead of 65 which we have now. I really love our old mirror I wanted to hang it a bit lower maybe then it will look better. The idea with a side table on the left from the mirror is great but I think my dogs bed will go there when we get dining table . He likes to sleep in that place. But I’ll hang some frames above.

Here is another view from the entrance, we have decorative brick wall, still

loking for a nice art to cover electricity box :)

Going back to the bookshelf I don’t have space in the living room to put any but I have one in our computer room :) I love frames with pictures and there will

be a lot of them on the tv stand because we are planing to hang a tv on the wall

I also wanted to hand a chandelier where a big mirror is. I love the traditional ones, will it look good ?

I like the idea of going with something warm to contrast your other grays. I think a wood or brown would look great! Nice home!

For the stools, you really need to look for narrow, small footprint ones; you have very little overhang. Anything larger will hang in the walkway and look off.

Hi Guys, wanted to show you what I already order :)

    This stools

This table, I wanted to get a bigger one but then I realized that for the holidays I can just fold this one and put in the corner and bring the big folding one from the storage. What do you think ? Now I need nice dining chairs, can you recommend me any nice ones that will look good with this table ?

And I ordered this tv stand ( at Black Friday we bought new tv, 55” - much smaller than we had )
