Help! Need lighting advice for 1950s center entrance colonial

I want to replace the recessed light which illuminates the 2nd floor hallway and (ostensibly) the stairway with a hanging fixture above the stairway.
We have a tradition 9 window, center entrance colonial which we have significantly transformed, but never did anything with this particular lighting situation. The fixture will not be visible from the entry or the first floor, only from the 2nd floor and when descending down the stairs.
The entry hallway and living room to the right are the most formal parts of our home, and the stairway is an extension of that (until the top). We have bronze hardware on the first floor, with crystal doorknobs and a flush crystal ceiling fixture right at the entry. Upstairs w have polished nickel hardware (hinges and crystal door knobs with nickel trim).
I’d like to find a hanging fixture which looks like it belongs here, like it has been here all along. But also want one with better but more defused light than the recessed can.
Advice on style and brand very much appreciated.
