The room is suffering from "Brown-to-White-itis". It's not a rare condition but it strikes thousands of homes every day! In this case the solution is pretty simple. Color has been drained out of this room and the only item with any real depth is the floor. Adding the right artwork, accessories and soft touches will bring this back to life.

You need large scale artwork on the larger walls, a window trim with Green and white (side panels on drapery rods) and interesting objects. Carpet, pillows, a throw over the back of the sofa. Repaint the ceilings in something other than White. Blues or Grays.
