Harry: Continues rain sometimes triggered wandering too. It happened in only one of my 7 gal. bucket bins this time. They (over 100?) got out and dried out. This bin has a loose fitting lid with the centre cut out, replaced by weed cloth glued in place. I read about strips of brass (?) to stop slugs and snails, this got me thinking in trying to deter worms. Since I don't have brass foil/strips, I cut a few 3" strips of aluminum foil, fold, and place over the rim pressed smooth in place before I put the plastic lid. Don't have any of them escaping again so far. I saw traces of wall climbing but not over the foil. Not sure if this is due to the alu foil or they just don't feel like wandering into the cold. However, not practical for a 2' x 3'.

I have the factory 360 and am using 5-6 trays in operation. I have thousands of worms and I no longer see any cocoons when I harvest. Worms seem to regulate themselves depending on space and food supplies , at least thats my guess. I think being able to use the rotation of the trays gives them fresh bedding and food when I change a tray and the worms appreciate that. Sometimes in the process of the rotations a few worms will escape as they dont like the light, but thats just part of it. The ones that escape are worms that were on the lid. I notice that when I thaw out some of the frozen pumpkin that it becomes mushy even the rinds , I didnt think that would happen but that makes it all the better.
