The opposite. Mount the rod over the windows first, then over the doors at the same height.

You want the rods even all around, so wherever you mount the rod above the windows, you want the rod above the door at the same place. Might be easier to measure down so you get them in the same place.

You might have to adjust the length of the curtains of course...be sure you don't hang them too high for that!
