Can't really imagine that a swag light is appropriate in a hallway. Why not post a picture of the conditions to get a wide variety of suggestions.

I have no idea what you are trying to acheive but a swagged light makes no sense and i can’t figure out why you can’t have a pendant unless the ceiling is too low in which case do a track or a ceiling fixture.

My first choice is a track lighting to highlight wall art in hallway. Now that would be ideal. However, electrician cannot install track lighting or pendant because of the wiring in my house. He would have to install new electrical wiring from upstairs bedroom, tear up a section of bedroom floor and re-wire. This is not something I am willing to do. Bigger project than I want. So swag is only option unless I want a mess.

Where is your electrical source? Would a plug-in wall scone work?
