You cannot do floor to ceiling drapes if the drapes can't make it to the floor. If you are wanting a fabric drape, you would be limited to a roman shade, which would look great with the style of your home.

thanks Kevin, this is not the style I'm going for. recent purchaser who is redoing it and struggling with the problem of the huge box on one side

Is there air that comes out of the top of the unit? Or is it more like a boxed in radiator? Are you looking to cover the windows only, or the doors too? If the doors, how do they open?

A picture of the whole door, and a closer pic of the HVAC, might be helpful.

Hotels use two different lengths. Have the hem in the short ones weighted so they don't fly around when the fan comes on. Have the hem of the long ones weighted, too, so they have a similar drape for best appearance.

my first thought was 'hotels do this all the time' but your client will have to decide if they want their home to look like a hotel. i'd really prefer very un-hotel-like roman shades on these windows.

The drapes never need to close. There are retractable shades to block light when needed. Have you seen drapes hung in front of unit rather than flush with window and then just pulled back to avoid blocking air flow?

strickr, the rod would have to be quite a bit out from the window (the depth of the unit) which might be ok if it went the width of the room.. but it doesnt. also, it would be hard by the end of the tract light as well. (honestly, i thought all of these things... just ran them through my head going nope, nope, wouldnt look good, nope... sorry.)

Can you post a picture of the entire wall and what is over the sofa at the ceiling?

IMO even if the HVAC was not there these are no windows that would work well with drapes there is no room for a proper stack back without blocking 1/2 the first window and I think roman shades would be a much nicer look or the panels that slide . I certainly would not do the hotel idea it looks tacky to me.
