Hmmmm. Tough question. It may be easier if you say "....and one that is impossible to find". Ha! Just kidding but it is hard to find some of them.

Check Feathery Touch. I was told it was a dwarf japonica. But everyone has their own definiton of "dwarf" so research if this will work for you. Search the forum too.

Call Nuccio's Nursery in Altadena, CA to see what do they have in stock.

If you are willing to prune at least once a year, most camellias can be kept that size. All camellias grow fairly slowly, so frequent pruning shouldn't be needed. Some japonicas will eventually look a bit awkward if the space is really too small.

If a camellia hybrid will do, you might find that 'Sweet Jane' is a good choice. She doesn't get huge (I think 6' is as tall as she gets), and I think you'd have to prune her less than most japonicas. As a bonus, she can also handle sunny conditions better than many other camellias...

vmr, I wouldn't say ALL camellias are slow growing. My April series ones usually grow 10-12 inches a year, and that's here in New England. I can tell you from experience that my sasanqua "Snow Flurry" is definitely NOT slow growing. It can make very long new shoots, so I can lop off two feet some years and do it no later than June so that the buds still have time to form. It's a fall bloomer, so I can't prune too late.

Look at my other post about "Snow Flurry nice showing this year" and you can see some of the tall shoots. I didn't get to prune after May because of illness.)

Camellia Forest sells a camellia called 'Jacks' which they say will stay under 5 ft for many years. I have grown a few of that variety and they are slow growers. Very pretty pink formal double.

I ran into another one a few weeks ago too... called Jewel Box from Nuccio's Nurseries, that may be of interest. It is called Jewel Box and is described as: Dwarf, tight, rounded growth habit. Small habit. Small, single white flowers bordered soft rose pink.
