POLL: Did you make or buy stockings for your kids?

Did you make stockings for your kids yourself, or did you buy stockings for them? I've seen gorgeous handmade stockings, but I'm not a great crafter and a worse seamstress. How about you?

I've bought some but others are more special. Our daughter was born in Pasadena on New Year's Day in 1982. I went into labor just as the Rose Paeade was starting. Even though it was after Christmas the hospital was still sending new babies home in giant stockings. We've used that stocking for her every year since...35 years. Mine was made by a craft group from my grandmother's church...way more than 35 years ago!

My daughter & son-in-law had bagged up some of his deceased father’s clothing to donate. I asked if I could have some of the silk ties, intending to weave a chair seat with them. The first Christmas my son-in-law spent with us, I made a stocking for him using strips from 6 or 7 of his father’s ties. It was beautiful and he was touched.

My mother made each of us personalized cross-stitch Christmas stockings. I'm continuing the tradition by making some for future in-laws and grandchildren. They are such a treasure!

I made several for our little family last year out of drop cloth canvas, wide ribbon trim, and paint. :)

My now-grown children's stockings were needlepointed by their great-aunt. She has since passed away, making the stockings a most appreciated and precious heirloom.

Over the years I had made a number of stockings for our growing family. Last year I misplaced them so I made new ones out of beautiful upholstery samples. No sooner was the last one complete than I found the originals. 'Need a bigger family.

I'm childfree, but my mother used a kit from a craft store for mine (she embroidered a pattern and then sewed it together), and I love it, even though later on, a family dog took a nibble of the binding. My mother-in-law handmade my stocking for holidays with my husband's family, as she did for the rest of the family. For my husband's first holiday with my family, I made his stocking.

I made stockings for my two when they were around 3 and 5 using fabric scraps from some summer dresses and pjyamas I bad made for my daughter. They weren't Christmas themed fabrics but all had red and green in them. over the years I added faux fur cuffs and velvet ribbons. the kids are now 38 and 36 and still use them every year.

My mom made our family's stockings, so when my husband and I started our own family, I designed and made stockings for each of us. (Here are two.) My third child had to wait until this year (she's three) for me to finish it. :)

I bought the classic red with white border stockings and added a name tag made by cutting up old Christmas cards and tying them on with a red ribbon. The name tags have endured 20+ years of use.
