Brian, Option 2, and perhaps remove all but a few smaller leaves, or cut the bigger ones in half. The main purpose of leaves is for photosynthesis but another important role they play is evaporative cooling, i.e. perspiration. Too many leaves will cause too much water loss through respiration

Be sure to open or remove the bag and give some moderate air movement for an hour or two per day to help prevent fungus, and keep the light and heat on the lower side of tolerance.

Are those edible fig cuttings? If so, when did you take them and where are you keeping them now, before rooting them? I have few figs that should be pruned and maybe I would attempt rooting one or two...TIA.

Hi Rina -

I don't have them yet but they can be stored by wrapping the cut end in a moist paper towel and placing into a sealed ziplock bag and then storing in the refrigerator until ready for rooting. I use a liquid rooting hormone solution prior to putting into the rooting medium. Brian

Thank you...I read about keeping cuttings as you suggested but never tried. I would have some cuttings off my own trees. I was actually thinking about air layering some of the branches in Spring. Not sure if I'll or not - I do not have much room to overwinter big plants (probably problem for many ppl here :); but feel bad throwing pruned off branches...
