Did exactly as Theresa did. First string quilt I made, I organized the strip lengths in different containers and it did save time while sewing. I did 3 more string quilts and just grabbed, sewed and trimmed.

I did string piecing on telephone book pages and then cut them up into 2 1/2 inch strips to make sashings for a quilt. I didn't organize beforehand at all, I just pulled scrap strips out of my big stash, which at that time wasn't organized into color families like I have it now. If what I pulled out wasn't long enough or the right color I just pulled out another. I had different widths and colors and I like the way it turned out without all the planning. Here's a closeup:

What I did do, like Rita, was separate by colour. Heaven forbid I should have two blue strips in one block. LOL

I tried that once Sharon and it didn't work well for me. I do have two separate piles however. One long for the middle and one with shorter lengths for the edges. By the way I use a very lightweight fusible as a base. You just have to be careful when ironing.

Sharon, I think I would sort as I go. Otherwise I'd find myself pawing through the same strips over and over looking for ones that were long enough. :)
