It looks like a thick counter, or could be normal thickness with an edge added on the front to partially hide the plumbing. Square vessel sink. Plumbing usually purchased separately.

It looks to me as if it is a small square sink sitting atop a thick built in shelf.

From what I've seen while shopping for my own bath, I suspect the faucets and drains, as with most sinks, would be purchased separately. This is similar to what I saw in Lowes.

That shelf is quartz or stone with a separate front piece bonded on like waterfall counters in kitchens. The P trap underneath the counter is a designer pipe which probably costs around $100+, depending on the metallic finish (brass, antiqued brass, stainless, bronze, etc.) And, Sophie Wheeler, that tile job in Northern California would probably be nearer to $50K! *grits teeth and writes check*

OMG Chess! Thanks for finding the ceramic tile shop. I thought that tile would look great in my sister's new shower...until I ran the numbers and a paltry 64 square feet would cost in excess of $2500! Labor not included! Next!

I find it interesting that in a high-end bathroom, the sink fixtures, drain pipe, shower fixtures, and shower door hinges are all matching brass. It seems like yesterday that brass was a no-no, "so 1990", etc. When did this change? I missed it!

(I am interested because all the door knobs and door hinges in my house are that 1990's brass. I was going to switch them all out. Now I don't have to?)

Brass has been back long enough that the style centers are just about peaked and it’s making its way into mass market retailers. Once that happens, the fad is officially on the way down. When you can find living brass and champagne gold on the shelf at Lowes, you’ll know it’s dead.

If the fixtures are good solid brass, you just need to take off the lacquer and use a bit of emery cloth to get the matte aged natural brass finish. Good brass never went anywhere. It’s classic. If they are the cheap plated too shiny brass, they weren’t good quality then and can’t be made good quality now.

Here are other small baths with interesting sinks and details. Many of us that have had vessel sinks would never put them in again. Installation for drain pop-ups can be complicated for the plumbers and therefore $$$. Hard to clean around and diminish space on the counters.

Here are other bathrooms, some with under-mounted sinks which can be quite reasonable in pricing and don't require upscale plumbing P traps. etc.

counter with a sink on top, the plumbing is purchased separately. The p trap looks like brushed brass, Kohler makes one for about $160.

Sophie Wheeler - my doors' hinges appear to be real brass by their look and feel, with a very nice patina of 25+ years. But all the door knobs are frozen in time in 1990s with the too-shiny brass-look finish, and they are egg-shaped to boot. I wanted to change out the door knobs to something more current, but thought that regrettably meant I'd have to change out the nice real-brass door hinges to match. It looks like I need to think about just changing out the knobs (and the strike plates) to real brass and spending the $$ on that. Glad I saw this thread.

I would agree with that even though I'm not a big fan of brass. I just don't care for the yellowish tone...even though I have plenty of it in my home. :-) Not about to replace all the hinges and doorknobs though - I'm content to live with it.

The warm brass and gilded finishes turning up all over are nothing more than a pendulum swing to a warming trend in "modern". The chrome and polished nickel on lights and coffee table bases and all else, in combination with gray interiors had to morph. That's the "warming". As it applies to baths? Nobody will EVER go wrong with chrome and nothing is simpler to maintain or as classic.

Thanks for that insight Jan Moyer! I've been admiring the new metallics, after getting past my memory of 1980's polished brass (I was there for that.). This is not the brass of the '80's--it's much more sophisticated. Your "warmth trend" observation is a perfect description of what's happening now. Thanks for sharing it!

Sophie, What would one use to remove the lacquer off solid brass knobs? I want to give it a try on some of the knobs in my house. Thanks

If you are referring to the vessel sink and counter.....especially the counter...it is a base created by the stone fabricator from stone material being granite, marble, quartz etc. consult with the fabricator for a quote.
