Thanks, ladies. I cheated on the mitered corners, I sewed those 4 blocks ahead of time and added them to the border strips when I sewed on the last two borders, adjusting the keys as needed.

I fussy cut the rectangles I needed from this fabric, I only had a yard and I needed 8 animals so I had to be pretty careful planning out the cutting. I made a template to give me an idea of how to do it. I was sitting on floor for quite a while getting what I needed and having enough leftover pieces big enough for those 16 skinny rectangles next to the stars. I had to piece one or two of those.

This came out is great, thanks for showing the back too, esp when they're coordinated. I want to see the backs too, feels incomplete to me otherwise.

Great looking quilt! When doing a piano key border, having a mitered corner gives it a finished look and I usually just make a HST.

My friends liked it and the matching coasters. She works for a company that publishes lots of home and crafting and quilting magazines and asked if I would mind if she took it to work to show people. Gulp.

I just did a questionnaire on DD's smart phone and my word for the year is simplify, too! DD helped me work on the basement today, Four bags of trash and a large pile to take to the resale shop. She can be ruthless when it comes to clearing out.
