Probably just a little habit your cat has gotten into...something you started without realizing it. My dog waits until she gets a pat and a kiss before she eats her meals...HAHA!

One of our cats wants us to escort her to her feeding area (on counter in 1/2 bath, next to kitchen) stir the wet food into a pile and then scratch her back a few seconds while she's eating. It doesn't always happen, but on her 'needy' days we oblige.

Funny how cats all have their unique quirks - my cat has to hear the pop top and see the food (fancy feast) coming out of the can. If he leaves big chunks uneaten that he refuses to eat, I just put it back in the can and then plop it out onto his plate again. Then it's good again and he'll eat it. Ah, they have us well trained dont they!

Thanks for all the input. It's nice to see that no one thinks this is an emergency. Yes, she certainly has me trained. This is my dinner-table situation. (None of my immediate family members know about this. They'd screech and swear never to enter my apartment if they did.) You can see her looking suspiciously at my take-out, as she eats her salmon.

Thanks for flattering me by calling her "lucky." I do my best by her. It does concern me that she vomits quite a bit, though the vet says she is alright. "Cat's just do that" is the reply I hear most often from friends and medical personnel.

Hopefully, and I think this is the case, that if you were not around and she was extremely hungry she would eat.

It is a nice bonding experience and obviously both of you gain from it. But hopefully her life would not depend on it if you had to be hospitalized or something.

My cat had been abused when I got him @ 7 years old. After two weeks he was really liking his new digs & people. He has no problems with throwing up unless we've just come home and we're late. He fretts that we've abandoned him. When we walk in the door he throws himself at our feet for belly rubs, mewing and celebrating. Then we have to wait about half an hour to feed him, for him to calm down or he throws up. He also no longer throws up hair balls....now we switched to grain free food. He has really long hair.

Your cat sounds very attached. A good bond has formed. I like that you eat dinner together. :0)

I like that she eats with me too. She is generally a very aloof "too cool for you" type, so I'm flattered when shows a desire to be near me. For an indoor cat, she is EXTREMELY independent!

My dog does the same thing. From what I understand, it might just be a natural instinct that dates back to their ancestors. You are the Alpha, which typically in the wild, the Alpha eats first and than the rest. Could also be a comfort for her too to have you there. It's a beautiful bond, in my eyes.
