You need drapery panels and a centerpiece for the table but you are off to a very good start!

Try the mirrors vertically. New drapery panels and a bigger light. I would also take down those two small pictures and get one larger one., something with some color.

I love your minimalist look, but agree that draperies would soften the look to just the right degree. I like the mirrors the way they are I'd be tempted to try a large colorful canvas painting on the bare wall opposite the mirrors. Actually, once you get the large canvas, I'd place it over the console and put the mirrors on the opposite wall. Add a lamp to the console. Let's see what we can find you for a chandelier. I like the ones below but I'm not sure they give enough light.

Much larger light fixture -- one that is a bit more "outside the box"-- not as predictable--a statement piece? Also, I think the mirrors look a bit thin/not thick enough-- they would seem more lux if they were thicker and/or had a thicker frame. If you can replace the mirrors with original artwork, even better.

Drapery panels hung at the top of the wall. The buffet and mirrors are too small. Look for a large, modern print wallpaper (in black and white, and perhaps an accent collor) for that wall. It will bring drama and large scale to the room. Turn the mirrors vertically when you rehang them. Lots of potential in this room!

p.s. Agreed, a larger chandelier is needed. Probably rectangular.

I think some window treatments would really help. You don't say whether you're interested in bringing color into the space, which is very neutral right now. If you want to keep it that way, I thought these pictures were really inspiring:

Chairs are traditional, light to modern. Hang light 36" from top of table. Add bamboo blinds dark, on windows keep rolled half way dn.home depot carries. add panels on each end. Will give window a more finish look without breaking the bank. Run black iron rod across whole window . Extend 5" pass window. Chandelier. Bigger more substance can be black rod iron. Ck Lowes. Add some tall candle sticks to sideboard. With bottles of wine and nice wine glasses. A scones tall black iron with heavy candles on each side of mirror. Bed, bath & beyond may have them or Pier one, world market. Pl scones should be 4" from side of mirror only.

Sorry I see you have some kind of blind on windows just add panels.in Charcoal. Add big palm in teal pot ceramic. To left of sideboard. Add plants to corners that look bare. Make sure they are tall.

Add something bigger and taller to table . Candles to small place on sideboard with other items. On table add a big low basket with a fake orchid . Get one with color green or hot pink.do you have other wall space.?

On your windows, stationary panels of a natural linen color, or orange would look great. But maybe you should get the art first and use a color from it for the drapery panels. Or take a color from a nearby room.

Just saw other pic on wall behind add very tall art with a lot of color. 5 feet tall and 40" wide. Would work. TJMax good place to look.

Two small pic need to go. Remember scale. It needs to fit wall space. Don't be afraid of color either. Mix it up. Where small pic are get one 36" tall not to wide 20" bed, bat had some not expensive.

I like chandelier above by shorted, that style but not so big or glam. Tone it dn a bit then perfect.

I see what you were trying to do with the mirrors. The problem is that your scale is off. I actually think the black table is too heavy of a color for the room as well. If you could easily do it, I would trade the table for a nice worn wood table that is a tad shorter. You can keep the chairs. The credenza needs to be longer and I would add some taller lamps on either side of the mirrors to add some visual weight. Definitely go with a more striking fixture at the top and add some neutral but patterned curtains to your windows.

i second the looks by KELLY for your dining room. a rich green would look amazing.. specially in drapes.. you need two panels only, one on outer side of each window..

And love the chandeliers by CAROLYN ALBERT-KINCL DESIGN, specially the first one.. as they are different from what people are using these days, which is mostly drum chandelier...

Also, like the paintings suggested by SHORTPED. lovely colours & subjects.. one painting/art is required on the small wall by entry door. It will reflect in the mirrors across, which will be great!

i feel you need a palm or tall plant or a topiary in the corner between window & buffet table.. as buffet table seems too small for teh wall.. the plant will balance it.. may be a topiary on both sides even...

Add one accent coloured tulips on the buffet..

I think the console is fine. Sure it could be longer and Santa's beard could be shorter, but there are other things more pressing, and those are the things that we were asked about, the lighting and the possible use of a rug. However, I've concluded that I really prefer the room without a rug. I'd spend the money on a chandelier and art and draperies.

I agree with the following suggestions: larger unique chandelier that has a modern flare with some traditional element to it, Draperies panels that are hung from the top of the wall, no area rug since there is already wall to wall carpet, some accessories on the buffet and table. I would move the two small pieces of art work to the blank wall and get a bigger piece of art work for that wall. I would also consider painting your DR a dark accent color. It will give it a dramatic feel.

I think your mirror and cabinet are perfectly fine! Drapes and a really nice chandelier will make all the difference. (And something(s) on the side cabinet). I also agree one big print could look better where the two small ones are.

I also think the console is fine. There is nothing wrong with the piece. I still feel that it's a nicely matched piece. But yes, having been asked for ideas that would make this a better looking 'room' (and make everything work better with each other), the plant/topiary ideas are just those. All about exploring best possibilities for a fellow houzzer!

Hi back at you, Lyvonne! I've always adored that chandelier and think it would be perfect for sunbeam's dining room. Great idea!

Try adding some plants too. An inexpensive way to add color and they can give you some height.

Move the chairs from the ends of the table and place three chairs to each side of the table (space looks cramped at the window and walk through ends). If you keep the window treatment streamlined with shades only, this leaves room for the suggested tall palm to the buffet side and a simple pedestal stand with vertical sculpture or vase to the right. If you go with curtains, floor to ceiling simple patterned panels with a single rod running all the way across the window wall. Add two similar/paired large scale pictures/canvas, one on the wall to replace the two small pictures and the other on the wall backing to the front porch. Consider a dramatic (perhaps dark) paint color or textured wall treatment (grass cloth) on the buffet wall, add long vertical candle sconces to each side of the buffet mirrors to widen the arrangement. Look at a new chandelier with a single neutral fabric shade to add a softening effect to the room (similar to the one in the picture you used for your mirror arrangement).

The table and chairs are very nice! Maybe changing the mirror, adding some unique wall decor, and dressing up the buffet chest with fun accessories such as vases, some small topiary plants, and figurines will bring some life to the room. Floor to ceiling drapes will warm the room up, and lastly, update that chandelier to something fun and stylish!

Certainly moving two of the chairs to the ends of the table would make a lovely positive effect on the room.
