Please help with decor, curtains!

I’m new to this site, an horrible with decorating and to be honest not very go with computers but hey I will try my best....

OK, I am at a loss of what to do as far as window treatments goes for my dining room and decor. The home is an open floor plan, he loves rustic & I like classy, elegant, Mediterranean style if that makes much sense..... It also pops out with windows on other side of room which you see in picture.

Who can help me tackle this I’m open to all suggestions!!! Can’t wait to have before and after pictures.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALLLL!!
Thank you all so much!

Lovely home! I would use white linen sheers mounted on a pole with rings. You have a lot of dark walls, the brick and dark furniture, so the light sheer curtains will still allow natural light in. They also go with everything so if you redecorate you can still keep them in the future.

You can use either a wood or metal pole/rings. For a more rustic look, use wood (you can get a distressed look if you want); for a more modern look you can use polished brass. Dark bronze or black is also an option. Get the sheers long enough so that you can install the hardware just below the crown molding, but not so long that they puddle on the floor, have them just touch the floor.

I am going along same lines as Diane, but I would consider a linen drape that can open for max light, but be full enough to not look skimpy when closed. There are some new look burlap drapes that look rustic but being styled like drapes walk that line between formal and casual. As to a lamp, I would not put a lamp on that table because of the line of sight from the front door. If you need more light, try an arc lamp that would fit behind sofa and extend over head.

Is there a floor outlet near that table? I assume the red at the dining table is just seasonal. Why don't you wait until you put away the holiday stuff and post new pix, so we can truly see what you live with day to day?

Here is nice combo of textured Roman shade with nice beige drapery panels. I would remove the large pots in metal stands or put in different spot. That is outdated look and takes up a lot of visual and actual space.

Yes deco there is an outlet to right of table and your right I will pick up everything and send more pictures didn’t think of that.....

Once holiday decos are down, I would move the floor lamp to right corner shining up the brick wall. I would put a decorative box on end table and no lamp. I would put an arc lamp into the seating area. Here is copper one that might work well. You need down light in living room area.

I tried doing a bit of a mood board using pieces of what you have by cutting and pasting. I used a photo of a dining table similar to yours because I couldn’t use your pictures with all the Christmas decor. So this will just give you some ideas. Look at this as a conceptual group of ideas. Once you are able to post photos without Christmas decos and move the floor lamp to the dining room corner it will enable us to do better mock ups for you. Enjoy!

With a brick wall, something worth considering for your dining room windows -- especially large ones -- is louvered wood shutters/doors.

Choose adjustable louvers as well as shutters/doors that open and close as a bi-fold closet door would.

I would turn the whole seating arrangement 90° counterclockwise and put the TV on the wall. Is there another wall for the horse painting? Also, it's hung way too high.

I await photos without Christmas decor.

grover - that's going to be a lot of TV glare from the windows without drapes. Any suggestions?

    Yeah, deco. Drapes.

Grover I agree the picture is way to high, I told my husband soooooo I’m glad to show him your thoughts unfortunately that’s where he would like to have it is in the living room.

As far as turning the sofas the opposite way from the lake I don’t know how I would like not being able to sit on sofa and see the beautiful sunsets. But it’s a thought! I will certainly send you guys pictures of every angle of the house so you could get the whole feel of the floor plan...... I’m being extremely lazy, it’s toooo cold in New Orleans I’m not use to it..... BURRRR

    Thank y’all

Wow, 22 degrees in New Orleans!!! I never imagined! Are they calling for any snow??? We're due to get 3-6 inches.

If you want to come to NY, come either spring or fall. Winter is very cold, and summer hot and humid.

Ok guys I finally took down Christmas decor so here are the updated pictures...... Please tell me what to do/ change? Pictures to show me would be great since I more visual!!

You have a lovely home. My suggestion is that you hire a local designer to come to your home. You will find that it will be worth while. There is a lot that can be done. The advice of woven reeds are really good in some of the areas and single paneled drapes on the sides soften the look. Your home has dark heavy furniture so you want the window treatments to balance it, not going too light in color. With woven reeds, you will be able to see out, yet add texture to the windows. There are lots of selection available to you. But, do yourself a favor. Have a designer come out. If you are worried about a large bill tell the designer you will pay for an hour consultation. Then see if you want to do more.

I can't imagine why you've covered up those gorgeous windows with those ugly too-long curtains.

Thanks Denise! Also grove we just moved in and curtains were there so this why I’m asking for Suggestions but I like your idea.... Thanks
