Stainless Steel Appliances, is the trend over?

Redoing my kitchen and will be putting in new appliances. Stainless? I have wondered if this trend is nearing its end? Want to make the right choice

This comes up a lot on houzz and I think the consensus is (and my personal opinion as well) that this is not a trend and it's here to stay. There are more updated options now for white and black appliances, but stainless is a neutral and there will always be people who want that industrial/commercial touch to their kitchen. There's always the option to put cabinet panels on your appliances for an integrated look.

i'm glad to know someone agrees with me!! :) sam07! ...must mark in calendar...
although have you seen the new slate? it's kind of like stainless only darker. I posted it somewhere the other day, and of course I can't remember the brand for sure :) but I think it was GE.

G.E. does make slate like a dark grey painted finish, Jenn Air tried copper and Whirlpool working on white ice. Truth is stainless is here to stay. I have been told it is going away except that was in 2001. Guess not. We sell stainless 90% of the time. panel ready is a nice option but can be more expensive when all said is done. If you really want to be creative bluestar offers over 1,000 colors. Stainless is here to stay

Stainless is less trendy and more classy :) it goes with everything, kind of like silverware. I wouldn't want a dark finish, too depressing :) yes, it can be a pain to clean it, but then who needs to do that every day? or rather, who DOES that every day? we have lives :)

They have been saying stainless is over for the last 10 years. Yet it's what people ask for every time. You can also do built ins with cabinet fronts. Like on dishwasher and refrig. But can't on free standing stoves or wall ovens. That will be stainless for years to come. With new spray stainless cleaners on market not that hard to take care of.

I would go with Stainless .. unless you have a retro kitchen.

Stainless. It is the only surface restaurant chefs use for good reason. WD-40 works wonders (after you wash off the sugars with a little dish soap) - polishes and seems to penetrate and is QUICK. Thank Martha.

    WD-40 :) is there anything it can't do? :)

Its good stuff we use it here to get the glue off the stickers from the factory. I will tell you i recently purchased barkeepers helper or friend something like that and have used it at home on stainless. It works miracles.
completely cleans shines and leaves no residue. WD40 is good to clean glue but if you use it to clean off the stainless it becomes very greasy slippery and ends up one your hands. Besides your kitchen starts smelling like an automotive shop//

I have a product that I purchased from a local appliance store that I was told is not sold anymore (naturally) but that is the best thing ever (naturally) and that the products in stores are not that good (naturally) I do use Barkeeper's Friend for a lot of things..it's great! it's like Bon Ami, no scratches. I don't know that I would use it on appliances, I do use it on my stainless sink though. go figure :)

There are now fingerprint-less versions like kitchen aid gallery and professional us one other I forget may be GE. I too am struggling between SS and the new Ice White. I am building with white cupboards in Benjamin moores cloud white. The kitchen in the GE add for ice white appliances looks exactly what I've designed. Just waiting to pick appliances and lighting. Super interested in hearing other comments on here.

in my vast experience hahaha it's not the fingerprints that are the problem so much as fingers with food on them :) and you will have that with any surface you choose.

I agree with Carole and others: As long as stainless continues to be the choice for professional chefs, it will continue to be popular across the board. Styles and shapes of stainless appliances will change, but like white and black appliances stainless is just too versatile to go out of style.

Yes white ice is whirlpools new try at something different. I have sold a few however its just a white smooth finish with stainless handles. that is it. it really is not a new color at all. Frigidaire tried it 4 years ago and it flopped. Here is a pic.

The Whirlpool white ice looks like a giant iPod. Talk about tiresome! Stainless steel is timeless no matter what.

Stainless steel appliances are a great way to go. They go well with almost anything and always look sharp. Trying to keep them clean is the biggest downfall, but not a deal-breaker by any means. I do not see them fading out.

I did go with stainless and do think it looks great. Discovered a fantastic way to clean them and keep them looking brand new. OLIVE OIL.....I kid you not! It's amazing. A little bit on my cleaning towel and voila! Takes away fingerprints, smudges and doesn't streak like stainless cleaners! Try it.

Stainless is not a trend, it is an option just like white or black. Slate is a trend, Ice is a trend. I don't see those becoming mainstream.
