There's an assumption here that I think is worth nothing isn't valid for all growers. Some people, such as myself, do not have an option to keep trees inside at 50 degrees - I simply don't have an option to keep citrus indoors at temperatures below about 65-70F.

In my case, given the choice between cold temperatures and outdoor light levels and high temperatures with low light, I've clearly seen that my trees do better outside. Inside, even with grow lights, I get leaf wilt, drop, and branch die-back. Outside, the wind may knock some leaves off and the trees may not grow, but they survive to the next growing season.

I have a Page mandarin for 10 years now, kept in the garage a couple of winters ago, lost all its leaves and look what happened next spring.
