Window treatment for windows that run into wall on one side?

I'm decorating my toddler's room that has a window that butts up to the wall on one side. How would you approach this engineering mishap?

I like roman shades but don't know if it's a total faux pas to pair them with a valance and curtains. The sill is deep so I'd recess the shades to be able to use the sill. It looks pretty bare that way.

What do you think of curtains and a valance?

One curtain or two? If two, do I squish the one on the right?

For context, it's the only window in the room and I'm building a tree to the left of the window.

The only requirements is that the shades are cordless and the room be easily made light/dark for naptime.

I would do a single inside-mount roman shade that covers both windows.

I stick with room darkening roman shades, without drapes as the tree will take up much of the wall space and also make the wall appear less bare. Would love to see the tree once you've finished it.

Sounds like this is a child's room, so why the fancy curtains? Use shutters instead. They come in both louvered and SOLID construction and styles from traditional to primitive.

I would do cordless Roman shades. They are a finished look by themselves. Certain styles of Roman shades come with a built-in valance.

But, if you want a valance, I would do cordless honeycomb shades with a simple valance.

It's a small wall and the radiator takes up a lot of the space. Panels on either side of the window will be too much.

Making a tree? That’s awesome. You sound quite creative so here’s a thought. Why don’t you use plain shades, as the others have suggested, and paint your window trim the wall colour, so it all just becomes background. Then you could paint or buy a simple mural (branches, vines, woodland stuff), and flow it right over the sill and trim, on the wall? With a 3D tree, it could be quite spectacular. I’m not exactly sure what your theme is, but you could even hang stuffed monkeys, birds, fairies, etc. (whatever suits your design). Here are a few pictures:

I would prefer one shade over the whole window but I can't find Roman shades that wide that aren't crazy expensive. It's 5' wide.

Hey There: We believe that custom pleated blinds will work great. You would need to measure them right to the window size - this way it doesn't matter that the window runs into the wall. These blinds open bottom up and top down, inside mount is a must for your situation and you can pick from hundred of colors...
