Can you tell me what this table is called

This table was left at a house my brother bought along with the chairs. The chairs have old straw and cotton in them. Need help identifying what it was called and time period and what it's worth today. I had taken old veneer off it was badly damaged to replace it. I feel the wood under the veneer was poplar and I know alot of very old furniture had this type of wood. Don't know what to do with it?
