Beautiful kitchen! I think it would really update the look even more if you paint the trim white. Doesn't have to be a pure white paint. You could go a little off-white to compliment the cabinets.

Are you painting out all the trim? I think stark white on trim is far too glaring. Luckily, there are MANY beautiful warm white options that would compliment your cabinets and the rest of your home well. You need to pick a color that maintains the same undertone of your cabinets and your floor. You don't want a green undertone in a warm undertone setting, for instance.

I would not paint it. I would just change your wall color. the trim is beautiful and is making your home unique.

I love your kitchen! Definitely paint the trim white--I prefer a brighter white, one that blends with the cabinets.
Yellowy whites can tend to look dirty. I would also paint the walls a pretty green or blue.

There is such a difference between the kitchen and the family room area that it is hard to say what you put in one, put in the other. I always prefer white trim (just a personal preference)..however, in this case, I think you should leave the wood as is. I would love the trim to be white in the kitchen but I don't think it would carry over well into the family room. The kitchen still looks nice with the wood as well.

On the other hand, the white trim could potentially lighten up the family room a bit which would be nice, but there is so much other wood that it also might change things up too much. I'm probably not being helpful! :) Just throwing some thoughts your way :)

I would match the trim color to the cabinets if you are going to paint the trim. Stark white trim against your antique white cabinets has the potential to make your cabinets look more "beige" or "almond" than you might want. (I speak from experience, by the way. We have ivory cabinets and ivory trim throughout our kitchen and great room). I'm neutral, BTW, on whether you SHOULD paint the trim or not. I think it has the potential to look lovely either way.

no, do not paint the trim. You have a beautiful wood floor that compliments it as well as base cabinets in the island. Natual wood is worth so much more. Once you paint the trim you always have to keep it up to look nice.

Don't paint the trim. The trim and the wood in your attached living room is beautiful! I would want to preserve the look, and I think you can do it without it feeling dated at all. I would try to add some pops of that rich warm wood color strategically in your white kitchen, so that it all meshes together. Even if it's a warm rich darker cutting board displayed on the counter, or something along those lines.

Good morning......love your kitchen...it looks so much like mine! Paint it! Freshens up everything. It is one of those things that no one really notices but will just lift the room! The reason not to paint is that it balances the darker furniture & stone countertops. I'd try patches of different shades on the ceiling, and live with it for a while, to find the one that gives and enclosing, cosy feel. It looks like the walls need a change in color, but I think its the photo

If you do the trim, please leave those gorgeous ceiling beams alone though.... :)

Beautiful kitchen! We had a similar dilemma; we have natural wood trim throughout our 19 yr old home, built by our contractor who was also a carpenter, and it's beautiful. That said, it does darken with time. We renovated our kitchen, took out most of the dark cabinets and replaced them with a wall of windows and a large oversized French door which overlook our deck & back yard perennial garden. We painted the trim white to match the new windows & French doors. I think you should paint the trim white so you have a coordinated look; without painting the trim, your kitchen runs the risk of looking not quite finished.

At first look at just the kitchen, I would vote to paint, but after seeing the whole open area I would vote no. The wood trim ties it in with the family room. I would agree with pghgal685 that you need to bring in some wood into the kitchen. I would also suggest bringing some lighter tones into the accessories of the family room, so the rooms blend more. Overall very nice!

And likewise, I agree with ewingmarcia. Accessorize your living room accordingly too! I hate to see people paint beautiful wood trim--I live in a 100 year old craftsman house, and I cry a little inside when I look at the painted trim and compare that to the rich warm columns and built-ins throughout that they (thankfully) were too lazy to paint. That trim adds character, and character doesn't go out of style.

Painting trim wood trim to me, is kind of like painting over brick. Why??? A pretty wall color would make everything pop.

I was against painting the trim, but looks like your dining room has been painted with white trim. If you do paint the trim, I'd match it to the cabinets; would make it look even larger.

I love white trim. Maybe not paint those center beams-though I'm not sure how that will look. White Dove by Benjamin Moore is a great color that I'm looking into now- check it out! Very pretty house, btw. :)

Please update us on what decisions you have made. I'd start with a change in wall color and carry that to the family/living room. Lightened the ceiling color a lot. You'd be surprised how it "brightens a room"....Then sit back and think about it....

Normally I always tell people to paint their wood trim white, but the wood trim in your house just looks so rich and makes the space feel so warm! I feel that even a creamy white would take away from the warmth and homey feel I get from these spaces. I feel that painting it white would be unnecessary work that can't easily be reversed if you don't like the outcome.

I like the idea of white trim (Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee is nice) but leave the beams untouched! :)
