Go to the paint store and look for colors that you like and post them. That will give us a better sense of where you want to go.

since it's a big first purchase, start with a small wow and one that can be easily changed. why not keep the cream/tan base but change all the trim to black or a deep purple. If you do a glossy black, that will really pop. I would also paint the brick ground border black too. Then you can add some perinnal hot pink flowers in the front to cover the foundation.

Right off the bat, I suggest continuing the red framing around the windows.

Go to Sherwin Williams and take a look at the Suburban Traditional folder. There are some great exterior combos for Victorian style homes with red as one of the accent colors.

No problem! Small houses have a lot of impact. It will be a little jewel.

As a matter of strategy, I would use a fairly saturated and medium value color for the body. I think the images that show paler or more neutral colors on the largest areas have far less impact.

Wow! love all the photos. One of my favourite Bahamian combinations for this sort of house is pale yellow with turquoise shutters and trim.

It's a really cute house. First, I think you should take off the shutters, because their proportions are all wrong. Next, maybe beef up the trim around the lower windows to look more like the trim on the uppers. I think a dark teal could be fun, but I think the turquoise that you posted made the roof look too orange.

And, I don't know your neighborhood, but in mine...If you painted your house really wild, you would be "those new people that painted their house all crazy." Start off slow adding your color.

I think painting the house turquoise with different shades of blue and a gleam of a shocking yellow or pink is funky and provoking. Turquoise as the main colour gets my vote! Don't do tan!

I like the turquoise and would not tone it down. I would maybe find somewhere to include little bits of bright green - or something. I think it needs just a little boost.

I too would be cautious of how bright the turquoise is in real life and take your neighbors/neighborhood into consideration. I would err on the side of muted. Someone in my neighborhood just painted their (huge) Victorian in shades of turquoise, pink and purple and it is so vivid that every time I walk by I wonder whether (a) they didn't realize how bright it would be or (b) they hate their next door neighbors.

mforr, your samples are colorful, but doable. They don't scream, but do provide color. Good job! Told you you are the master!

There are other bold homes in town that I love including using turquoise there just seems to be a fine line between the "right" shade and yikes.

Here is a color scheme that my wife likes. It's more subtle, but still with a pop of color. We're actually in a neighborhood where bright colors are pretty well accepted. But I agree, we don't want to take it too far.

I think because its a smaller house, that the colors will work. If it was a big, giant rambling Victorian it would be the "clown house" of the neighborhood. Thanks handymam :)

I still don't think you are taking the roof into account..

Yes as you can see we're still trying to narrow down our favorite options, but i think with all your help we are getting closer. We actually just had our offer accepted this weekend, so we're very excited about the possibilities. What colors do you think would work considering the roof? The roof may need to be replaced shortly so we're not putting too much emphasis on that right now, although it would be good it we could find something that would work alongside it.

I think the roof would look best in a medium slate grey color. Please plug in my colors in your photoshopping, love to see them all together on your house. But change the roof color to grey first so handymam and I can rest easy

Really like the first two in the left column and both look good with the current roof (and with a future gray roof). Consider a third color (maybe a medium gray for the second photo and something livelier for the first) for porch floor and other small touches.

I like the dark gray too. My concern with some of the brighter colors is that all I notice when I see them is the color--the architectural details that make your house so charming get lost.

I really like the teal scheme, besides the royal blue shutters, but the teal is a warmer blue with greenish undertones and the royal blue is cold with stable tones. id choose a crisp white to go along with the white trim. the whole house with a have a tropical wild key west-y feel. or if your more daring you could have a shceme like this

I'm not sure if anyone has suggested purple yet or if you're into it, but I see this color used a good amount where I live and while bold it fits in. I've seen it used with forest green, yellows and the turquoise you like.
