Before and After Kitchen

We kept the same footprint of the existing kitchen. Our happy discovery was this beautiful wood ceiling under the sheetrock.

    Beautiful trasformation! Great work!

So lovely. As for the lack of color in a comment above, they can always add accessories and a rug if they choose, but I like it just as it is.

such a warm and inviting job- love the wooded ceiling.
I guess that you should check houzz more often bro- the clients are obviously crazy about the environments that you create. Nice that it showed up when you were showing Betty- maybe that will motivate her to do more searching on her own

The wooded ceiling seems to be a growing trend--used in Scandinavian modern designs--surely great consideration for people who want wood but uneasy having wood counters or floors. It looks like you expanded the room giving an opening--nice idea. The windowpanes and glass door cabinets are perfect together. Is it the lighting or are the cabinets actually a warm white? The cup pulls add to the comfortable feel..

We love to discover shiplap sheathing in our Central Austin projects! In the "after" photo, you can even see the shadow of the kitchen wall we removed, where decades of smoke and grease from the cooking had discolored the pine.

Yes, it looks amazing, especially the wood ceiling :)

Shiplap, with a burlap fabric covering was the way a lot of homes in Austin were finished out until builders started using drywall in the 1940's. Most of the homes with shiplap interiors had drywall installed sometime in their lives as a defense against the phenomenal amount of air infiltration that got past the shiplap, and because the shiplap was perceived as trashy.
With modern insulation, it's pretty easy to expose some of the shiplap in an an old house to add some texture and color and have a bit of history showing. We're salvaging some of the material from homes that are being torn down, too, so we can put it in houses that weren't fortunate enough to have some to start with. Here's a photo of some vintage shiplap I just added to my kitchen as we tweaked it to extend its life/beat the ugly out of it (it's on the right, behind the wire rack).
