Not sure what the point of the white was.........? It's fine on an island as part of a totally white kitchen, not great as an "accent island". It's just okay, but if the point was to lighten kitchen ......other changes may have been better. I think what you are REALLY saying is you're not exactly 100% thrilled with the slightly jarring effect against all the other cabinetry?

Your photo is dark, we know not the rest of your decor, and it's even hard to tell the wall color. A COLOR may have been a better choice ......? A very warm soft gray, or something that ties to the rest of your home. Your flooring and counter tops seem a bit disjointed, one very warm, the other cooler. I guess i would ask your goal and grand plan : ) No to the glaze btw and take some full daylight photos and add to this post.

I agree with Jan, would have gone soft grey, I'm not loving the bright white. Doesn't go with countertops and floors either.

My guess is you want to paint your whole kitchen. I'm afraid you are right, that it is a bit too harsh a white for that countertop and floor. Better halfway turned, than erred all the way. So - as kariyava also stated - go for a white that is a few tones warmer. Or change out the countertop and floor. Well, at least the floor then. Maybe with a darker wooden looking floor the current countertop would still go.

Shop for new bar chairs, for they are not a good enough match then.

If you weren't going to paint the whole kitchen, but just this island, you definetely picked the wrong color. A black-brown would have been better, in my opinion.

The white linen Island would work if you paint out the kitchen walls white linen too...than it will work..will lighten the space and be more cohesive......where is the oven or range in this kitchen can we get a full image?

Yes, that island is "too" white. If you are wanting the island to be a different color, with your current color palette you should have painted it darker, not lighter. But the real problem is the rest of the cabinetry needs to be painted as well, it is very dated looking. So before I repainted the island, I would come up with an overall plan for all of the cabinetry.

I think the question is DO YOU feel it's too white? Are you going to paint the rest of the kitchen cabinetry? what is your plan and what look do you desire? I think you could work with it with the right lighting and paint/decor surrounding if you are going for a clean white look.

I would paint it a color ( actually I would have left it alone in the first place ) but it’s been done & I think Jan’s suggestions are spot on.

If your goal is to freshen up and lighten, I would paint the perimeter cabinets white as well. Add a backsplash that brings in a little of the flooring/countertop color like a griege subway tile. The walls could be a lighter shade of the flooring color. Even better, add some textural vinyl wallcovering that looks like grasscloth like Thibaut Coastal Sisal

And I must warn not to paint the walls white linen as well. Will look more off, than it is already.

Maria Private....strongly disagree...the very warm walls are fighting with the White Island and the gray countertops and floor..the linen white will bring the room together and is a the direction design is going white walls are very strong in design right now..... it has to many different components going on....could add a white backsplash.

High Ease, sorry, but I strongly disagree with your views. Both pictures with too white islands look horrible to me.

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. At least the poster gets to pick and choose. We do not have to agree, we obviously cannot. There is room enough in the wide world for conflicting tastes to co-exist, in this case, nicely behind closed doors.

Wow..well first of all..I do believe ONE Of the biggest problems is the lighting in my pictures. .all the coloring seems off as to what it really is.

My backsplash is a beige found in both the countertop and flooring.

The white is to white..and I suppose I knew that after I did..I chose the linen white because I have that white on many furniture pieces throughout my very open floor plan..I was thinking it may carry the color throughout..

Obviously a poor choice..I have since added a glaze to tone the white..and I know that many on here don't care for the glaze as it appears dirty..but my "style" in my house is more of the country..farmhouse look..not nearly as upscale as all the kitchens I see posted on here. .but with my house only being 8 yrs old..new flooring..counters and cabinets are very much out of the question.

Also I have tried several shades of gray in my rooms and all seem to take on a greenish look for some reason..

Would be silly at this point to post more pixs..as they all tend to be much different than in my person..one of the downsides of trying to do something like this..when no one can really see the true colors..

Thank you for the opinions..I did ask for them..and as I leave here now..I had no idea my kitchen was such a complete disaster. .:(

Hey MIchelle, your kitchen is not a disaster at all! It's beautiful. Well, except for the too white island in my opinion, which can easily be fixed with a can of fresh paint. You read the different opinions, so you have enough options to make it work better, according to your taste.

These are better pixs of my countertops. .floor and wall color with white trim..the wall color is BM everlasting. .and the backsplash is also everlasting.

Michele, do you have any additional photos? Perhaps one with more daylight or the lights above turned on (make sure your flash is turned off). I'm a fan of the white island myself. Do you intend to paint the other cabinets? If not, you could always have a lighting expert see if a different light would work in the kitchen area that will tie in the warmth from the other cabinets.

Hi Michele - Don't allow our thoughts/opinions/tastes detour you from your goal. Truth is we all have different tastes, and NONE of us are paying your mortgage. You have to do what you love. It is your kitchen after all! As well, it's easy to sit behind a computer and tell homeowners to paint all the cabinets, replace the flooring, replace countertops, and etc. I, personally, don't find it intelligent to swap out material that are in excellent condition.

Having said all that, we have similar cabinet colors as yours AND are painting our island only an off white (our reason is because we are adding to our island and there is no way we can match the remainder cabinet colors).

I'm def. not an expert by any means, but if I were you I would either repaint the island a shade lighter than your wall colors, OR repaint the walls and the island a warmer shade of white!
