I think you can go whiter on the stucco, but I'd keep the wood a dark brown stain to maintain authenticity.

Agree with deco's suggestion to stucco the brick wall.

I don't know what your budget is (how much you're looking to do here), but in general I would .... repaint the house a lighter color (to get that white Spanish look you're talking about). And then I think the painted wood looks dated. So I would replace that with wood (not painted wood) on the balcony and the shutters. And then I would replace the spindles on the balcony with black metal/wrought iron. And then I would paint/stain the front door black. And then it looks like you're missing outdoor lighting fixtures, so I would add that also in a dark metal finish.

Hi thanks everyone for the ideas. I'm in Arizona where the red brick is a unique feature compared to the typical concrete block walls. Its a distinct feature for the neighborhood and I'm not sure HOA would allow it. That said, I do see stuccoing the the backyard side would create more balance.

The railing on the balcony will be replaced and I'm interested in doing wrought iron inserts/railing in between the large painted wood posts.

cpaul1 had an interesting idea on stained wood vs painted for the pillars. I'd assume these painted one pillars could be sanded and stained? That might look good in combination with the dark trim paint. Then I'd also consider doing wood slate ceiling on the balcony. Would that look off?

I'm searching for some photos of similar homes with the non-painted beams and similar style.

As far as the balusters, something like this in a flat black?

decoenthusiaste - I'm a big fan of that white home with the dark trim! Wish I had the wooden windows to contrast like they did. I'm not sure how I could do that without the wood windows/door.

I have always loved a Spanish stucco house in a peach color. I would keep the balcony style the same as it currently is as it's authentic. I think dark stained wood & using dark brown window trim will sharpen the look. What a lovely home you have.

I think the Vigas would look better this color, and the window shutters have to go they are mixing it with country style.
