Yes. And window treatments and end table and lamps.

Right now you have a very neutral backdrop so find an inspiration for color scheme be it art, a pic from a magazine, drapery fabric, rug, vase, whatever. Once you have that then choosing the other pieces will be a lot easier.

How will you use the room? Right now, that's a lot of sofa for that small space. Will you be adding a TV? Or will it be a sitting/conversation area? That will help you decide layout.

the sectional is too big and too bulky

following...

First of all, move your sofa about a foot away from the walls so you can hang curtains. Your tan sofa takes up a lot of visual space and doesn't harmonize well with your brown floor. A large patterned rug will help fix the problem. Whatever rug you choose should have just a little the tan color of your sofa. Here's one with some blue and ivory with just a bit of tan.

While you have blue and white curtains, a little more pattern in the room would help. Put curtains on both windows.

Place a low console hall table or chest--white or an accent color--by the front door and put a mirror over it. It can serve as an end table to the sofa and give you a place for keys.

The sectional really isn't right for this space. What furniture does your family room have? If it's a sofa, is there any chance they could be switched? The living room would look and function much better with a sofa and two chairs.

Here's a start using your sectional. Are you aware that your curtains are hung backwards? I replaced them with some I had on hand. If you want to keep the teal sheers, you can build your color palette around them.

I added a low chest by the door to act as a drop zone, an end table, and with luck, perhaps a place for shoes (?). A rug, a chair, a bit of gold in the coffee table and pillows, a couple spots of teal to echo the sheers...

what if sectional was turned with long side on long wall or is the room to narrow?

Mary, if the sectional were turned, the chaise would block the opening to the dining room.

I don't understand why two people have posted that the sectional is too large for the room. Yeah, it needs to be pulled away from the window a few inches, but other than that, it seems to fit into that corner pretty well. There is room near the front door for an end table, room for a coffee table, and room for a chair to face the sectional as groveraxle has photoshopped.

But if you do nothing else to the room, Mirlove Francois, turns those two drapery panels around so they face the room, not the outside.

I'll make some suggestions in a minute, but please pull your sofa out from the wall just enough so your curtains can drape. Also, get some matching panels to dress the other window to match.

I agree the first arrangement was better, and do pull the sofa even a foot off of each wall so it can breathe and the drapes can hang properly.

grover, that looks great!

Here are a few ideas from a design we did for a client. Perhaps you will find something in them that you can use for your space. Notice the rugs, lamp, pillows, coffee tables, and decor items.
