I see my Psychopsis grow question from 5 years ago,is still on here. Well I have yet another new big one from the Ft.laud. Orchid Society Show/Sale. And a new question. It has 2 flower spikes, the older spike has 3 'offshoot spikes' on the same spike. The tip must have gotten snapped off, and it is putting out 3 side bloom stems. At the tip, there are 2 and a 3rd way down on the spike. Then I have a brand new spike growing on the newest growth. It is 'Mendenhall Hildos'.... in the leaves 'crotch'. for lack of a better term.

THIS question is...the NEW growing spike coming up from the new leaf, is that normal??? I have always had bloom stems come from the side of the newest pseudo bulb. Is this odd or unusual? I have never seen a bloom stem start from the middle of a leaf. I just need to know if this is normal, do I let it grow and bloom, or is it going to damage the plant? I HATE the idea of chopping off a new bloom spike.

I didn't notice it when I bought it, I just saw 2 spikes and 3 side spikes and bought it! In the pics. See how one spike is on the side, like I am use to, and one is coming up from the new leafs 'center'.

So...do i have a 'oddball' plant? Or does this happen, and it is normal? Have a look. Thanks for any replies. Going to TRY and keep this one alive!!! It is growing in a TIGHT small pot, a mix of spag. and lots of orchid bark/charcoal.

I don't want to repot it. Into a basket made of all orchid bark/charcoal. it must be in this pot for 3-4 years?? And it was grown locally here in Fla. BUT it is going outside soon, to hang from whats left of my plumeria tree.

Hurricane Irma took most of it away,....so I might have to drape shade cloth over it, to prevent burning the plant, let alone the bloom spikes. Advise??
