What's the right technique to trim / prune cherry tree for compact space? I'd like the tree to stay small due to space constraints - height and spread. secondary goal is to have more fruit yield.

I'll have my mow and blow gardener do the pruning but he doesn't know the proper way.


photo 1 is the tree he pruned last year - just chopped off all branches at a certain height. it really shot up in height and the thin branches coming out of cut off thicker branches looks ugly.

second photo is the second tree that looks much better and had some fruit yeild last year.

both need pruning I think.
