There are two many rectangles. Changing the tables for an oval shaped one, would make a big difference. You could also hang round mirrors.

I'd put a round or oval mirror over the sideboard instead of the pictures, and get an area rug, maybe even a round or oval one, or one that has circles on it, pulling together the brown and the red from the cushions.

An area rug would tie the space together. Side tables might also add another layer.

You can then make a picture wall behind the couch.

The picture wall should be changed out to a more abstract colorful wrapped canvas. It seems to busy and you can't see the photos until you are right up to it. Add white floral to coffee table for some life and texture. Add a print to your pillows for interest.

I like it very much! I might add a rug (in a light color with a bit of the pillow red). I think the table lamp is too short/small and I think more lamps (on side tables or floor lamps) would be good. Good sized lamps would work well because of the large scale of the furniture.

I wouldn't go crazy with pattern. I like the room's simplicity. Maybe a large open pattern on a light colored rug, but still quite simple.

I'd add a tufted bright colored ottoman in that blank space

I'd hang curtains as close to the ceiling as possible. Mix in some colored pillows on the back of the sofa that's all cream now. Agree with carolins that the lamp is way too small. If you have a hall in your home put the photos on a hall wall where they'll be eye level. They're too small and too high to even be viewed.

Yes, an area rug would help. I would also add something to the back wall/corners - perhaps a couple of planters or one planter and a tall book/display case?

The brass tray would look nice over the buffet along with a larger lamp and a big paintings over the sofas.

Just a rug to take the stony, cold feel away of the floor.. everything is perfect otherwise. Possibly a floor lamp in the corner to add drama with and to bring eyes to the mid level of the room too.... that's all. everything else is perfect!

I think the room looks great. I like your photo wall and art. I actually like all the rectangles because it works in your space. How about a luxurious textured off white shag rug? The only thing else I'd suggest is removing the small lamp on the console and flank the console with two glorious matching floor lamps.

A pair of these lamps on each side of the console would look fab. :)

I love wall paper. The metallics in black and silver on wall behind chest. Remove all family picture at any rate. Add a huge cut glass sunburst mirror instead. On wall next to window, a tall 5 foot by 36" painting oil Asian. A 6 x9 area rug, Persian with black, cream and some muted reds. Under coffee tables. Add large basket with tall orchids in middle can be faux. Not liking drapes on winDow. Go black bamboo shade, to stay with theme. Keep open half way. Home Depot carries.

Remove small lamp from chest. Too much stuff on top transfer brass to coffee table, use brass tray hanging on wall to chest top. Replace with art as said in other post. You are doing a good job. Seeing something in a picture like here. You can see whole room and can add things to dead corners adding bamboo trees, next to chest will fill that wall more.

Hang a interesting chandelier where fan is. A brass ball large with lights inside would work. And add interest over coffee table. Go on line google brass chandeliers, see what comes up. Should be 24" drp low 45" from table top.

For a rug, you could do as Darzy suggested and go with a textured solid or here are a couple from West Elm that might work.

Unless you go for a rug that makes more of a showstopper. In which case you need something to tone it down again.

Since your sofas are quite long I had another thought... you could make your own rug from carpet tiles. FLOR has a great selection. You can make it as wide and as long as you like. And you can choose as many different colours and textures as you like.
You'll have a unique carpet that you can even 'demolish' and reassemble again in a different pattern.
And thén the lamps that Darzy suggested would look great flanking the console.

Sorry Darzy and Darin, off-white carpet with lamps is really nice. Thought it might be sort of boring, but isn't. I made a couple of mock-ups with one more colourful and a white rug (white, because it's quite a lot of work to mock-up a FLOR tile rug, so I just picked a white shag from Overstock in stead. Lazy as I am.).

I would consider using the brass tray over the console, changing the color of the console to a paint color that is lighter than your walls; consider Darzy's floor lamps; removing the photos and using them in a more private area of the house; changing the window panels to the white of your pillows and finding a rug that will knock your socks off :>)

Needs art.

Maybe something more neutral with a big red bowl instead of the flowers. An earthy abstract or sepia portraits of some random children.

Do you really need to work on your table lamp right away? if you get a floor lamp, you won't need the table lamp on console.. but place it on some side/end table next to sofa (no changing of table lamp required).. place the light sources on the diagonal corners of the room.. I like the idea of one large painting over the console and a rug between the sofas. I would vote for a subtly patterned rug the color of the floor.

I love the total effect of your room. It is calming and exquisitely simple. Whatever you do, make sure not to lose the simplicity by adding too much to the room. Your room allows the visitors to be the color and center of attention. I love rooms like this!

New, larger, colourful artwork over the buffet .. excellent. Add carpet! Add lighting to highlight the painting. Room is bland without meaningful, more dramatic illlumination. If track lights can be added ... add them.

Like the Flor "Mod Cow!" I can't believe I just said that!
