I think a cadet blue would look great for shutters and front door. This house is adorable. Chloebud is right about the hedges, but I guess that's a different subject. Good luck in your new home.

I agree, no shutters, trim bushes, blue door.

Longer term, you might want a curving walk from front door to driveway or street.

you want it to have a little personality? Urbane bronze on the shutters and a vermillion (you can tone down this color. it's bright in the picture) on the door. then, prune the hedges (those two in front of the porch need to go) and get some white/orange/yellow flowers for the flower bed this spring. throw in some bright green foliage/grass plants.

Remove the shutters. They're too small. Trim the bushes, all of Chloe's suggestions really.

Either a black or red door would pop nicely.

You could also beef up the trim around the windows if the shutters go.

To have the right size shutters on your home each shutter would have to cover the entire window (half on the left and half on the right). For the best curb appeal, shutters are supposed to look functional even if they aren't functional.

IMO it would not work on the double windows. Here is an example of an extra wide shutter like you would need:

^See the shutters on the second floor? Those appear much wider than the shutters below. It works best on a single window and not on a double window.

^Another example of wide shutters, but it does work on this style home because they are sized right with hardware. These may even be functional shutters, I don't know from the pic.

At the moment, decorative non-functional shutters are a dated look. However, they may come back. Meanwhile, I would eliminate them, beef up the trim and find a color you love to come home to for the front door. Totally new landscaping would 100% be an upgrade to your cute cottage. You might consider rambling English style gardens.
