Are you looking for a "black" flower color or black seeds (black oil sunflower seeds, desired most by birds)?

I assume you mean the bloom, and not the seeds. I don't know of an actual black, but some specialists have some unique colors.

Looking for black flowers. I have a dear friend who can't garden anymore, so every spring I plant some new plants for her, and she wants black sun flowers this year.

I've never seen a true black sunflower -- what is named "black" will probably be very deep brownish-red.

^^ I grew a similar one called Moulin Rouge, bought the seeds off the rack. It was DH's favorite last year.

I think I've seen the seeds for these. I want to plant a patch of these this year.

Chianti and Moulin Rouge are both nice, there is also one called Chocolate that's very dark. I found one called Red Hedge at Johnny's Seeds, it's supposed to be the darkest, I plan to order that one and share it with several friends--it comes 100 seeds to a packet for under $6.
