Functional Garage OR Appropriately Sized Garage?

We're remodeling in a historic community (most homes circa 1850-1925), and our lot is long & narrow (44x150). We're building a detached garage, and we have larger vehicles (hylander & tundra), thus 24x24 is a functional garage size for us. However, it seems to dominate the lot. We want it to look appropriate, plus we'll likely sell in 5 years. We only had the architect draw it 24x24, so here's my own space planning images. What would you do? 24x24, 20x20, or something in the middle? My husband's main wish was to garage his tundra, but it's 20'd and 9'w mirror to mirror.

View from street (as your design is now):
Could you make the garage door part of the building look like a carriage house?
Could you make the garage door part of the building look similar to the architecture of the main house, like a "Dower house?"

You could build the garage on the left side of the lot with a turn-around. This would put the garage out of sight from the street.

You could build a one car garage for the largest vehicle and build a carport for the other vehicle.

If your area gets a lot of snow, you will need a plan for where to pile the snow when shoveling the driveway.

Look at Houzz PHOTOS for examples of narrow lots with garages in back. Be sure to use quotation marks on search terms.
