I would do the snowflakes in the plain centred blocks and quilt around the embroidered ones. I think it would be a shame to quilt over the embroidery.

I should clarify that it's not actually embroidery...it's a printed fabric.

Though, I like your suggestion... Maybe a decorative stitch around the printed squares?

In part it depends on how close/far apart the batting recommends that the quilting should be.

I think I would SID around the "embroidered" squares and do the snowflake in the white and red. I also like the spinning branch template. It looks snowflaky, too.

If it isn't real embroidery, I wouldn't hesitate to stipple or something over the red and white blocks. So many options. I'm sure you'll come up with something great.

Free-motion quilt on the outlines of the redwork trees and houses plus the edges of the "redwork" squares.

In the other block areas, use the snowflake design.

IIRC this is to be a wall quilt? If yes, the amount of quilting is not as important, IMO. I think I would do an outline around each block with the designs and then do a design over all the the rest of the quilt. This way, the printed blocks will stand out - as they do now on the unquilted quilt top.

I would quilt through it but I would use white. Less chance of distracting from the pictures. Pretty quilt!
