Kitchen lighting ideas - NEED HELP

Hi everyone!!! I'm hoping to get some feedback... we picked out lighting in our kitchen (it hasn't been installed yet, so there's time to swap it out) but our kitchen does not have any recessed lighting hence we picked out pendants and flushed mount fixtures!

I attached a picture of the future lights - two picture views of the kitchen. (I cut them out and placed them where they would go on the photos

, its hard to tell from these two photos, but the pendants will be over the kitchen island, and those mount lights will be over the sink and over the future open shelves.)

My question is....is with the pendant lights we chose, are those 3 flushed mount light fixtures be too busy or too much all in the same room??

Yes it does look like too much.

The drum semi flush are not appropriate for a kitchen as mentioned above by Kelly and they read Living room or Bedroom, not kitchen.

Any combination of lighting with pendants over an island will not work. You need to drop in high hats or pot lights or (smaller spots) in the ceiling. Use LED bulbs which can work with switches that allow you to dim the lighting.

The spots should be able to flood light over task areas for best functionality.

It's hard to tell that you have 3 flush mount fixtures. It looks like 4 total(2 flush and 2 pendants).

I’d keep the fixtures as similar as possible since they are in the same room.
Suggestion:Glass fixtures are easier to keep clean than fabric covered.

The pendants are good but I would switch the flushmounts for contrast. Something metal would be nice...

Sounds good...kinda what I was thinking as well. I found some simple brushed bronze lower profile lights.

Thank you for the link showing us what you like but..............I think the eye will be drawn up to bronze ring and look spotty and will be distracting.

You want to keep the eye on the pendants. All other lighting needs to be much less conspicuous.

I don't think they go well together. Why not do recessed lights , its not that expensive and you will be pleased with the results

I loved my 3 pendants over the island. It became the place to sit and chat with company, and I found something just my style. Kitchen grease and steam are a concern, so make sure everything is washable. Enjoy your search.

Looks are one challenging problem but function is very important. Counter, sink and cooking areas should have 450 lumens+ of task lighting at the counter so you can comfortably work on things. Often this is done with recessed 4 or 6" leds in cans placed between the front of the cabinets and a line up from the counter front edge. This is so your body doesn't create a shadow over what you're doing. Under cabinet leds add more light. Recessed cans over the sink and cooktop/range could be included in your recessed light plan. The 'standard' light bulb available as a dimmable 15w led as a 100w equivalent at Costco or HD is great for 6" cans. It puts out more light than a 100w bulb did. Led color temperature of 2200-2500 is Warm and 3000 is more Daylight. So less incandescent. . . . Pendants can add room lighting and mood lighting.

To be honest - the pendants and those other lights together look ridiculous. It looks like you are doing a good job in your kitchen so continue by just putting in the recessed lights and the pendants over the island.

I like these flush mounts for your kitchen but would do a different pendant as they might be too similar.

Thanks for everyone's feed back, i'll post a finished photo when the lights get installed next week, but I found some "recessed" styled lights for a great price on amazon, they will look great and not compete with the pendants ! And they come in 3 finishes if anyone is in need of some lights :)
