Help! Is white grout hard to keep clean on a kitchen backsplash??

I am thinking about doing marble mosais backsplash and it has a lot of white in it So white grout is the obvious best choice with light gray as second choice. Is white grout a bad idea for the backsplash? I love the look of it but don't want something that will stain and look terrible in a few years...I've got a very busy family and want something lasting.

I have white grout and have not had a problem, but my backsplash is only 2 years old and I do not have a free standing range or stovetop. My range goes up in the back like ordinary ranges do, and I have a decorative tray on the backsplash between the range top and my hood, so food splatters do not hit my backsplash much.

I have had off white grout on my backsplash for over 10 years. It's still the original color, with no issues of clean up. Any staining splatters from cooking, such as tomato sauce, I clean up immediately, just in case.

You might find this article on different types of grout informative: https://ml.houzz.com/AzGf/J2PZWNzelK

I'd be more worried about the marble, though. Marble stains very easily, and is usually not ideal for situations where stains are a worry. If you're looking at mosaic tiles, have you considered porcelain, which won't stain, in a marble pattern?

I do not agree , whenever possible I choose any color but white for backsplash . Why make yourself work if at all possible to avoid it.Marble mosaics are IMO a lot of grout lines especially behind the sink and stove so keep that in mind

The area behind the sink I find to be a pain to keep looking white with white grout.

Rrgardner, I love that kitchen! I am also looking at a herringbone (marble) backsplash! After these comments now also looking into marble staining, ugh. Lol

I think I am going to go with the white grout but do the mapei flexcolor cq...has anyone used this or heard good or bad about it? Also I will seal the marble and hope that will be enough to ensure marble won't stain. In this day and age if you know best sealer brands for marble please let me know! Thanks!

rrgardner, your kitchen is beautiful! Can you tell me about your hood? I am new to Houzz, so if this is not the appropriate forum, or if there is a way to direct message rrgardner, feel free to clue me in! Thanks. :)

I purchased the Zinc/nickel with motor vent hood from Custom Copper Hoods in Libertyville, IL. Hugo is the owner and was great to work with. Highly recommend. Excellent and very reasonable. I was able to drive there which saved me the shipping cost. I went to his shop with which is attached to his house with my husband to be sure it was a legitimate operation. I hope that helps

We used Laticrete epoxy grout in white, it will never stain, it's amazing. Not easy to work with but worth the time & effort!
