Before you have an area rug made, check out rug websites. There you will find the greatest selection. Order the smallest size first to check for quality and color. Return shipping should be minimal. Then, should you choose an 8x10 shipping is usually free.

I would go with the more neutral rug. I think it’s more timeless. If of course you love animal prints it would be an option for you. You can bring color via your visions as well.

Jdesign, I do like animal prints and am struggling with my vision. I was thinking of looking for an animal print in cream, gray/black tones which would make incorporating pops of color a little easier. Does that make sense?

HI -- Are you sure 8x 10 is the size you need ? Rug should be room size less about 18 inches around or large enough for the furniture to fit on . At least the front legs . I love the animal print but there are a lot of great rugs out there. Take your time to choose and make sure it is something you can live with for a long time . If you get the animal print just don't go crazy with more animal prints as it can turn tacky very fast . Just the rug will be fine .

Go with the leopard, but go to 10’x12’

Thank you all and thank you BeverlyFLADeziner. This is my first time seeking advice on Houzz and I truly appreciate all of your thoughts and ideas! Yes, I'm definitely planning on changing out the table. I'd actually like to get a round ottoman to replace my coffee table. I found this rug today and think this might be the one. I really like the contrast. In person, It's black and ivory (no yellow in the ivory).

I think those animal prints are too small and will look out of scale. Flo's zebra looks like a better choice to me.

Don't look at the rugs so much as the scale of the prints in the renderings below:

If you're going to do a leopard, I think the scale of the second print is better in your room. Even the last rug is just enough larger and more random than the sample you have in your photo and is a better look, IMO.

I'm having trouble finding a rug with as small a print as the one you show.

You're a magician, Groveraxle! I am partial to leopard and like the ones you selected. May I ask where you found these?

As you are partial to animal prints then go for it. Just be careful that the rug does not over power the rest of the room and become the focal point. I like Flos option as the tones are more understated but still has interest.

Forget animal print rugs, they look busy.

Love animal print, adds a real lift to a room I think, being a rug, chair, pillows or ottoman if design allows. Some rooms are just plain ho hum
