Need sofa help

I'd rather keep the discussion here where everybody knows my name. :)

We desperately need a 2nd sofa...for the dogs...and when company comes over. Our LR is large and we already have a longish sofa, so there's more than enough room for a full sized sofa, or a larger than normal love seat.

Because the sofa won't be used that much, I don't want to spend a great deal of money on it, and I'm going to order it online, after I read reviews and such.

First, do you know of any decently priced online furniture stores, other than the usual like Wayfair, etc?

Not interested in leather.

Second, where the heck are the sofas with pattern? No bold patterns, something subtle. And why are the solid colors of sofas so limited?

The sofas with patterns are at the stores where you can customize/choose from the big collection of fabrics hanging on a wall. Sofas online are mostly solids because they’re appealing to the majority. At least that’s what I assume. Most people are looking for solid color sofas and save the patterns for pillows or maybe a chair.

I think West Elm sometimes has decent prices esp when they’re having a sale. How about IKEA? I know they deliver at least some things, although shipping might be $$$. Craig’s list??

Raymour and Flanigan. DD got her sofa bed there. I was surprised at the comfort and selection of the sofas and chairs. Wait for a sale. They have a good replacement policy as well.

Take a look at Society Social. I love her style. I’ve never sat in one of her couches, but they sure are beautiful at a great price point. I have a bar cart from them, purchased their first year! I am eying their couches for when I need one.

Ikea does offer some patterned sofas, mostly in slipcovers, like the ektorp.

BTW, West Elm is pretty notorious for having uncomfortable sofas, but maybe the dogs would think differently.

Oak, I can't remember what your living room looks like but Anthropologie has printed sofas.

I like patterned sofas too. I think small patterns that read solid are perfect for well used sofas because they can camouflage small mishaps like drink drips and such. And you are right, most things in stores are solid or leather.

I love the things that Terrilyn posted but a while back I spent a fortune on a bold patterned sofa, got sick of it after 8 or 9 years and kept it longer because of guilt. Then I got really sick of it.

I agree that west elm isn't all that comfortable-- but i'd put it on par with Ikea for comfort.

There are a few places that have an upsell for patterned fabrics-- pottery barn and Ballard are the two that come to mind. Crate and Barrel generally has a few patterns but I think it's primarily stripes.

You don't mention budget other than you don't want to spend a lot.. I suspect that Annie Selke will be out of that range but I love love love some of her patterns (which you can order online). Choose one of her sofas/loveseats and it will show the patterns you can order https://annieselke.com/c/sofas-loveseats

Another suggestion on the other end of the scale-- pier one often has smaller sofas in patterns. I suspect they are not all that well made or durable.. but when I have sat in them in the store, I generally find them fairly comfortable.

One note: I think their scale is small-- not just in length but in height.

I love the sofas from Raymour and Flanigan. Mostly solid colors but I could find a lap quilt to put over the back. I checked out the other websites posted a month or so ago.

While I adore my dogs, I'm not paying close to a 1k or above. I'm thinking more of 500-700. It doesn't have to be too comfy since no one will sit there for extended periods of time like we do on the regular sofa. Except the grands if they're here watching a movie, and they're so lightweight they'd never notice. lol.

Below is the last picture I took of my LR, it's the front of the room and the new sofa would go where I was standing while taking the picture. I'm sure most of you have seen it already.

The pattern in the sofa is exaggerated because of the flash. It's not even noticeable unless you're standing next to it.

I hate the rug (it's my second one), and I'm already tired of the newish coffee table which scratches sooooooooooooooooooo easily. grrrr

See the chair? I bought it at a thrift shop for pennies and it's a perfect match. Wish I could find the same material for a sofa.

My $.02...I wouldn’t introduce another pattern. I’d go with a solid sofa. Not that you asked!

I forgot about Pier One. I’ve had a couple of chairs from there that were surprisingly durable.

Macy's offerings are quite moderately priced and they have a good variety of styles, IMO.

I've seen some inexpensive sofas in Joss and Main's sale section. This one is just over $300.

We have a dark gray Ashley Alenya sofa and love it. I would never by leather from Ashley but this fabric sofa has been great. Great with pets too and was only around $300.

More than likely I'll have to get a solid color, but what would you suggest? I can't think of anything that would match.

This would be hard to find, but what a about a light green that matches the green in the chair? Or camel?

If I get a lighter color it will stand out like a sore thumb. A dark color will make the room even more darker and I'm trying to go lighter. A new rug would help with that, and a new TV console which DH brought home when he bought the TV. lol

I went to Joss & M. and if I was instantly approved for their credit card so I can get free shipping on my first order.

Sofa, indoor rug, out door rug, new lamps. Yeah, I can see it. :) I'm so picky though.

I noticed the card is for all their affiliate online shops, Wayfair, Birchlane and one more. Do you know if they each carry the same items?

I have seen the same item on Joss & Main and on Wayfair, but not always and maybe not at the same time. If you make a purchase and pay shipping, you can get free shipping on other purchases for 30 days. I bought a coffee table and end table (they shipped free) for my son's apartment and got to see them last week. I was pleasantly surprised with how nice they were. Looked like they were bought from a furniture store and he said they were easy to assemble.

Cindy, that's beautiful! We already have a rock bench next to the fireplace, but we need something where the grands (or me) can lay down.

Lascatx, I've ordered things from both stores and I'm always happy with my purchase.

I wonder what dh would say if I sneak a new rug in the house? I wonder if he'd notice? :)

SOS, I need to get this done and I'm stuck on color. More than likely I'll get a camel colored sofa, unless I can find a pale green one, and I also decided to replace the area rug with an indoor/outdoor rug because we're also taking care of DS1's two elderly Shih Tzu's. Two horse sized dogs, and two mini's. :) We had to pull up the Persian in the back of the room, because of the Shih Tzu's, hence the indoor outdoor.

Color for the rug. I looked at a color wheel and I'm not impressed. Would you scroll up and look at the room again and give me some suggestions for the main color of a rug? I desperately want to lighten up the room so dark colors are OUT. A busy pattern is okay if it's subtle.

Don't worry about the sofa, I should be able to choose a color.

I'm going to buy the sofa, indoor/door rug for the LR and one for the porch at the same time so I can get the one-time free shipping.
